Job Summary:
The Senior Director, Data Products determines the strategic vision and roadmap for data products and solutions significantly impacting the way a business(es) and/or multiple functions interact with internal and external customers, ultimately enhancing and continuously improving products and services to customers as measured by relevant KPIs. The Senior Director, Data Products ensures that any new data product meets the evolving needs of the organization, through continual innovation, evaluation, and implementation. This individual will directly and indirectly determine and influence strategic, customer-centric priorities and champion customer-centric principles. The Senior Director, Data Products coordinates the efforts of marketing, design, and production to test and develop new data products, and leads initiatives with highest level of visibility and complexity, including long-term planning.
Responsibilities:
• Determines strategic vision, collaborating with senior leadership to lead a team to deliver a portfolio of the most visible and complex data solutions, recommending and implementing new or enhanced data products to better meet stakeholder or customer needs by ensuring development of project backlogs and plans, including milestones and dates, identification of parties and processes impacted by a data solution. Able to lead multiple Agile or project teams to deliver data solutions. Sets strategic vision and drives alignment with senior leaders and stakeholders. Broadly understand Liberty Mutual's strategic and competitive position and how data products can strengthen that position.
• Influences strategic thinking across the team and the broader organization. Leads the definition and implementation of proof-of-concept data solutions that support the strategy of the organization, working with IT to scale and institutionalize proof-of-concepts. Owns the understanding of respective data areas. Has an in-depth understanding of new technologies needed to progress initiatives, while demonstrating a masterful understanding of the use of data in solving a business use case. Creates roadmaps for product delivery, innovate and create new product ideas. Can turn vague ideas or problems into a data product strategy. Effective at balancing risk and business need.
• Able to identify stakeholder and customer pain points and strategically address those concerns. Able to describe value and influence the prioritization of data solutions. Able to organize and balance resources to address customer pain points.
• Has a masterful understanding of industry trends and an understanding of organizational processes and leverages external trends to advance the organization's maturity. Effectively influences budget decisions and the management of allocated resources. Solid project management skills to ensure effective project execution. Expected to be a change agent across the organization. Acts as a coach and mentor for peers and technical members of project teams, and can communicate effectively across multiple technical units and senior leadership. Maintains a close working relationship with data providers and partners.
• Leads a team to break down data issues and resolve them, by prototyping data solutions to meet the needs of both the organization and business customers.
• Ability to think through proof-of-concept solutions and how they will be maintained, and can help assess whether proof-of-concepts are viable and scalable by partnering with IT.
Qualifications:
• Strong written and oral communication skills required.
• Experience in communicating recommendations to senior business leaders preferred.
• BA/BS, or relevant work experience, in Computer Science or related field preferred.
• MBA or advanced degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or other quantitative discipline strongly preferred.
• 15+ years of experience working in coding and data solutions design principles, particularly in open source tools and technology, negotiating horizontally and vertically, with a track record of delivering products from ideation to launch.
