Overall role purpose
The Risk management and independence function within Grant Thornton International Ltd (GTIL) sets out to safeguard the Grant Thornton brand and reputation through systems and processes that identify and mitigate key business risks including compliance with applicable professional standards and regulations. The Risk management senior associate will play an important role in advancing this ambition by driving the team’s compliance monitoring efforts and defining, planning, designing and executing activities that serve to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
This role will help with the development, implementation, maintenance and administration of an enhanced global monitoring and compliance program and will work closely with the function’s Directors and process teams to ensure that the firm’s risk management and independence objectives are met.
To effectively achieve risk management goals, this compliance professional will work to maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements and developments, assist team leadership in understanding implications of new firm or regulatory policies, support the implementation of new or revised policies and programs to address the aforementioned, define and develop improved methods for evaluating and monitoring compliance, prepare reports and analysis that identify possible gaps and weaknesses, and define and develop approaches for addressing these findings.
Main responsibilities
Help define, document and execute monitoring and compliance initiatives to evaluate and improve global compliance with international policies and standards
• Help define, document and maintain policies, practices, and procedures documentation, including records of monitoring reports and analyses performed
• Work with Directors to define, develop and execute appropriate review, escalation and remedial actions processes
• Help define key performance indicators and develop, coordinate, and execute appropriate compliance review, testing and analysis to measure performance
• Utilize existing Risk management and Independence systems and available reports to monitor ongoing levels of compliance and identify areas for remediation
• Attain and apply knowledge of firm policies and international standards and rules to enhance reporting, analytics and actions plans
• Act as a problem solver and provide recommendations for improving compliance and ensure that management remediation plans are adequate. Validate that issues identified through compliance monitoring and review processes are promptly addressed
• Identify training needs based on gaps identified through the compliance monitoring process
• Assist in developing, maintaining and presenting internal independence publications, including training materials, practice aids and other supporting guidance
• Aid in the definition and development of new reports as needed to support and enhance the monitoring program
• Help maintain and draft/present new policies as required
• Operate in an international setting with occasional meetings and calls occurring outside of normal business hours to accommodate member firm needs
Support continuous improvement of the supporting Risk management and independence tools and reporting capabilities to support compliance objectives
• Evaluate effectiveness of application functionality and reports and propose improvements to meet control and information needs
• Help define, document and test new application enhancements
Support other GTIL Risk management and independence team processes and projects as necessary and capacity allows
• Understand the various processes supported and tools maintained by the broader team in order to provide assistance during periods of high volume activity, team member absences or system upgrades
• Assist in various ongoing and ad hoc team projects as needed

Education/qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Marketing and communications or a related degree
Two to three years of experience in public accounting or audit, risk management, compliance or in a similar practice or function
Recognized compliance or other professional certification or equivalent a plus
Experience
• demonstrated working knowledge of various industry and professional standards and guidelines
• ability to comprehend and apply policy content to business process scenarios
• experience using business applications
• solid critical thinking and analytical skills
• expert-level computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• must exercise discretion and sound judgment, as position includes exposure to highly sensitive information
• strong organizational, time management and project management skills with the ability to assume, prioritize, and execute multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously
• experience communicating with professionals with a wide range of English language fluency

• experience working with SharePoint and/or other knowledge management tools
