The Institutional Wealth Tax Analyst I position is primarily responsible for ensuring that all distributions for 401(k) plan clients are distributed timely and accurately; ensures all filings for federal and state tax withholding from those payments are paid timely and accurate; ensures all legal compliance is upheld and properly processed for the plan. Ensures that all Employee Benefit needs are met with continuous interaction with internal business units.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs all daily balancing routines for Federal and State deductions deposits. Analyzes payment data daily for verification of deduction amounts for each plan. Ensures all filings with Federal and State are done timely to avoid penalties. Works with system issues and customer account situations that involve strong problem solving skills. Also resolves issues relating to software or technical programming for daily tasks.
2. Performs control review of all functions related to Employee Benefit distributions; ensures thoroughness and focuses on timeliness. Balances systems to ensure accuracy before filing with the appropriate entity. Performs tax form and other regulatory form processing from annual account distributions. Reviews internal exceptions and contacts the appropriate plan administrator or recordkeeper to complete resolution. Also contacts the Internal Revenue Service or state entities to work through any exception processing.
3. Tests all payment software systems for upcoming enhancements relating to tax changes, security updates or interface files. Ensures all tax related updates are completed to prepare for the upcoming tax period involving withholding tables, tax forms and filing deadlines.
4. Acts as primary employee in the IW distribution area; determines work priorities and schedules work assignments; orients and trains personnel; provides employees with guidelines and leadership to meet all internal deadlines; evaluates daily issues and discusses the best alternatives for resolution with employees; ensures service level standards are met.
5. Works pro-actively within own areas of responsibility and with other department employees within Wealth Management Services to eliminate redundancy and implements mutually beneficial efficiencies; e.g. increasing utilization of online functions, automated solutions to labor intensive functions, multipurpose data input forms.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of employee benefit principles and regulations for Federal and State tax filing
• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles
• Excellent PC skills including spreadsheet and word processing applications; 10-key by touch
• Excellent organizational skills, ability to improve functional efficiency, streamline and improve methodology
• Demonstrated ability to handle significant fluctuations in volumes while meeting extremely stringent deadlines
• Excellent reconciliation and complex problem solving skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including interpersonal skills
This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; or at least 6 years of experience in payroll or benefits.
