Vanguard’s Enterprise Supply Management Division (ESM) serves a key control function for Vanguard by managing the enterprise-wide, end-to-end purchasing experience.
ESM provides business clients with the expertise necessary to maximize those relationships. ESM organization was created to proactively identify opportunities with suppliers and capture significantly greater value for our business units and our client-owners. While saving dollars and cents on individual contracts is valuable, the group also acts to ensure business units select suppliers that closely align with Vanguard's interests (like securing sensitive data or providing best-in-class client service) and fostering strategic relationships with more innovative partners.

The Category Planning and Execution Strategist will be deeply vested in helping Category Managers, CPO and ESM strategically position Category Management as a strategic differentiator.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Helps Category Managers and others see the many possibilities of good category management by serving as voice of Category Management.
◦ Influences thinking behind category strategies, offers ideas to CPO and Category Managers for “how to” approach the category from strategy to execution.
◦ Develops and drives execution of a category management & strategic deal playbook/roadmap, including a process/framework to drive consistency and structure.
◦ Defines and regularly refreshes/refines metrics to facilitate category management work prioritization, execution and impact. Builds appropriate reporting to drive visibility and accountability.
◦ Serves as point of contact, the HUB for value capture, provides expertise on how to think about the methodology & supporting processes and leads operational recordkeeping processes, including continuous improvement of said activities, in partnership with ESM Shared Services.
• Introduces Category Managers to external viewpoints, perspectives, materials, resources to enable learning and advancement for Vanguard, CPO, ESM, Category Managers.
• Partners with Category Management to determine best approach to serving clients when large, multi-category, multi-division sourcing engagements come to ESM.
• Executes project management activities for such engagements as needed.
• Critical enabler to executive level reporting for strategy, spend and value – provides positioning support and participates in/contributes to turning reports into decision support.
• Champions sourcing process compliance – ensures that best practices in the sourcing process are followed.
• Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• An undergraduate degree required.
• Minimum five years general experience with a minimum of two years of experience in financial services.
• Ability to learn content quickly and apply a strategic lens to category spend.
• Apply critical thinking to demand requests and build consensus on efficient solution.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Strong project management and time management skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Takes ownership of projects by actively seeking out input from category managers.
