Job Summary:
The Tax Research Consultant (“Consultant”) works with a team to perform multistate sales and use tax research. The Consultant will also make taxability determinations, formulate and compile opinions regarding tax ramifications to complex transactions, manipulate and test client data, and maintain a knowledge base of current taxability issues.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Researches and analyzes multistate sales and use tax issues and communicates the results of the research to the client.
• Analyzes client data for sales and purchases and develops comprehensive tax categories and rules used to automate the tax calculation process.
• Works with databases, data entry forms, and queries used in the tax research review process.
• Communicates with state and local tax agencies, clients, and others through written and verbal channels.
• Researches through various sources including legal online databases and the internet.
• Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree or equivalent in Accounting and/or Finance and one to three years related experience. Masters Degree in Tax or JD preferred.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft® Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook. Advanced knowledge of internet and research software is required.
Certificates and Licenses:
Valid driver’s license required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
• Standard indoor working environment.
• Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
• Occasional long periods of standing while copying.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull up to 30 lbs.
• Position requires regular interaction with employees and clients both in person and via e-mail and telephone.
• Independent travel requirements – 25%.
• 50+ hour standard work week requirement.
