Overview
Marketing Manager
The Marketing Manager will be responsible for planning, oversight and management of marketing programs for business lines under the Simmons family of brands. This role will also hold responsibility for development and execution of the yearly marketing plan which aligns with corporate direction and goals. This person must possess the ability to develop strategy, plan, implement, manage and maintain compelling and sustainable marketing initiatives, both traditional and digital, as a part of Simmons’ effort to strengthen our brand and attract and engage customers.
The Marketing Manager implements marketing planning, budgeting and projects related to traditional and online advertising, media planning, direct marketing, merchandising, and customer communications support. The position reports to the Director of Marketing. The Marketing Manager serves business lines as internal clients to help support business goals and profitable bank performance. The Marketing Manager is responsible for profitability contributing to the company by:
• Developing the annual marketing plan and ensuring the profitability based business case of all assigned marketing projects, promotions and events to align with bank, business units, Marketing Department and product management objectives.
• Evaluating the Simmons territory and/or lines of business market position and recommending to appropriate management the best course of action for capturing available profitable business.
• Generating ideas for targeted sales efforts and marketing programs based on information derived from the databases and research. Investigating, presenting and advancing new opportunities and approaches for improved marketing results. Consulting with the business lines on these ideas and formulating and executing a responsive plan of action.
• Managing the development of traditional and digital media marketing and sales promotion which includes: managing the development of advertising collateral, branch merchandising, and direct marketing ranging from broad integrated campaigns to one-off, event-driven projects.
• Acting as a consultant and subject matter expert for the supported business lines on all types of available marketing, channel and geographical availability and other considerations to ensure successful marketing.
• Developing measurement criteria for marketing programs and reporting on marketing campaign ROI. Providing reports on marketing campaign successes and opportunities for improvement.
• Coordinating teams of inter department, outside agents and internal cross-functional resources to achieve pre-established business plans and goals.
• Obtaining and accurately evaluating customer research, market conditions and competitor data and implementing marketing plan alterations as needed.
• Creating and overseeing annual and transactional customer surveys to include reporting and action plan based on results.
• Ensuring all marketing stays aligned with brand principles, visual identity, regulatory and legal guidelines.
• Ensuring all collateral is compliant with banking rules and regulations related to advertising. Working in collaboration with the Compliance department to maintain understanding of stated procedures and policies, including regulatory compliance issues. Ensuring proper procedures are in place to ensure Compliance and Legal review of all customer facing marketing and advertising materials.
• Maintaining records, developing and managing advertising budget and tracking progress throughout the fiscal year.
• Adhering to and making recommendations to improve Marketing processes, procedures, accounting and results monitoring.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Finance, Business or relevant field required with a minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing, preferably in an advertising agency or similar position.
Necessary Skills:
• Strategic marketing and communications project management and development skills. The ability to identify marketing and communication needs, develop plans for those needs, creating or managing the creation of programs to field. This includes the ability to critique, assess and provide direction/revised direction for both strategic and creative aspects of projects.
• A thorough knowledge and comfort level with commercial banking services, including cash management services and lending products. Exposure to wealth management products and services. This includes an understanding of and appreciation for operational and systems issues that affect product and service delivery.
• Creativity - in developing promotional/communications materials as well as the ability to think “outside of the box” in day-to-day problem-solving situations.
• Strong sense of market priorities and ability to push back against group think that will negatively impact the company’s position in the market place and marketability of our products.
• Analytical skills. While advanced quantitative skills are not necessary, the position does require the ability to calculate program ROIs, comprehend and identify patterns in numerical data and reporting, understand and formulate database queries, and determine outcomes based those queries, etc., and recommend adjustments to ongoing marketing programs based on that analysis.
• Project management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Strong ability to collaborate with Operations, Compliance and other lines of business to identify and coordinate project dependencies. Scheduling, time management and the ability to proactively anticipate where potential problems or slow-downs may lie.
• Excellent communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to write executive level documents and make executive level presentations.
• A self-starter, a highly motivated personal able to work in a fast past environment that is continually changing.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple, diverse, and/or complex projects and deadlines.
• Knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media.
• Budgeting, project and team management experience.
• Strong team player, ability to work within and lead cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze situations, research alternatives and make end-user recommendations.
