SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The VP Human Resources role offers a unique opportunity focused on delivering on talent initiatives, projects and processes that will support our talent strategy and achievement of business goals.
Reporting to the CHRO, this person will be responsible for executing and integrating the HR strategy in-line with the needs of the business plan and strategic direction of Santander Consumer USA, and the organizations they are in partnership. This role will provide operational and consultative support to members of the C-Suite and their staff; equipping leaders with the tools and techniques which enable them to manage staff in alignment with talent philosophies, policies, practices, and programs, specifically in the areas of succession planning, change management, talent management, and organizational and performance management. This position will be the first point of contact for the business and will collaborate with the Centers of Excellence in Talent Acquisition, Compensation and Benefits, and Performance Management and Talent Development to ensure the building of a best-in-class company. In addition to advanced knowledge of human resource practices, this position requires strong communication, organizational, and influencing skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Leads projects and initiatives that support talent management programs and practices.
• Consults with the business and develops comprehensive strategic recruiting and retention plans to meet human capital needs and strategic goals.
• Actively engages in projects focused on standardizing core HR Operational practices and continuous improvement efforts, with willingness to experiment with new ideas.
• Helps managers solve complex people-related business problems by analyzing issues across a function or operation, identifying root causes, evaluating alternative solutions, and taking action quickly and efficiently.
• Coaches managers to develop clear objectives and development plans, to provide coaching and feedback during the year and to evaluate individual and group performance.
• Partners with management to optimize employee engagement levels by analyzing annual Employee Opinion Survey results and recommending actions to support employee engagement and retention.
• Facilitates day-to-day HR responsibilities, providing operational and consultative support to managers in alignment with talent practices and programs, and leveraging the HR COE’s to provide best in class support.
• Provides successful knowledge and consultation on organization design and development, compensation, performance management, recruiting, and employee communication.
• Coaches key executives on improving their ability to engage employees and work cross-group with their peers.
• Key focus is on Business Partnership, but role is likely to involve the leadership of 1-2 business partners, with possible dotted line leadership of employee relations specialists.
• Develops team members by providing feedback on strength and growth areas, providing an environment that supports learning and development, and regularly discussing progress towards goals with direct reports.

RE COMPETENCIES:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides leadership and direction through directors and/or managers and exempt staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Santander’s policies and applicable laws.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
• 10 or more years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources, required.
• 5 – 7 years of previous management experience required.
• Advanced knowledge of HR and talent management practices.
• Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills. Advanced ability to manage conflict and address competing points of view.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong presentation skills.
• Proven ability to quickly grasp new concepts and effectively adapt to varied challenges and demands in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Strong ability to build rapport and trust with customer groups in order to positively influence decisions and actions.
• Demonstrated Continuous Improvement.
• Previous experience in a regulated financial services business, required.
• Must have strong attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to influence others, effectively address audiences of all levels and foster collaborative working relationships.
• Must be self-directed with ability to multi-task and prioritize.
• PC/Windows skills required, including HRIS system knowledge.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
PREFERENCES:
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Additional experience in Business Line roles is a plus
• Professional Human Resources certification is strongly desired.
