At CoBank, our Senior/Lead Industry Analyst is focused primarily on the communications industry (fiber, cable, wireless, ILECs, rural broadband). The analyst’s primary responsibility is to deliver timely, insightful, and concise industry/economic research reports and analyses to internal and external audiences. Work collaboratively with other CoBank professionals with a shared interest in the communications industry to identify key trends and industry issues. Write well-informed, insightful economic reports and analyses on industry trends, structural change, and policy initiatives for internal and external audiences. Prepare and deliver presentations to internal and external audiences. Keep abreast of new developments, market conditions, and macroeconomic conditions impacting both the communications sector and the bank. Identify key research topics and develop a plan for how to complete the research project. Develop broad-based network of contacts within the communications industry and collaborate with external consultants as needed. Serve as liaison to CoBank’s Communications Center of Excellence.
This position is ideal for someone with a passion for delving into current issues, new trends, structural change, and their implications for the communications industry, who is comfortable tracking numerous sectors and generating actionable insights, and who aims to become a recognized industry expert. You must have a talent for writing and synthesizing information into meaningful conclusions. The position provides flexibility to work on a wide variety of industry topics and interact with leading CoBank customers and industry thought-leaders, including academics, consultants, and other industry experts. The analyses, insights, and conclusions will be used to inform decision-making within and outside CoBank.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s in economics, business, finance or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a communications analyst or related industry economic analyst.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree.
• PhD.
• Knowledge of the communications industry (cloud and data centers, wireless, fiber, cable, ILECs, and/or rural providers).
• Excellent analytical, written, and public speaking skills.
• Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete research projects in his or her field of expertise.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and provide written or oral summaries to key bank decision makers.
• Sufficient knowledge, experience, and confidence to apply a global and national macroeconomic perspective to the communications industry.
