Department Profile
The Risk Management Division is responsible for the independent identification, analysis, reporting and escalation of all market, credit and operational risk exposures arising from business activities, acting independently of business management and providing an effective challenge process.
Morgan Stanley’s Market Risk Department provides independent oversight of the Firm’s business activities, material market and idiosyncratic stresses; identifying, measuring, monitoring, advising, challenging and controlling market risks generated by the Firm’s market-making and banking activities.
Description and Responsibilities
This Senior Executive Director role resides within the Market Risk Stress Testing function. The Market Risk Department is looking for a Senior ED, with over 10 years of experience, deep understanding on a variety of traded products across asset classes, regulatory requirements associated with CCAR, and other regulation and with prior experience in design and analysis of trading shocks. In addition, prior experience in Fixed Income and/or Equity research will increase the suitability of the candidate. The job requires the candidate to be abreast of latest market developments, emerging risks, and work very closely with Global Risk Management heads and their teams in designing scenarios, and preparing documentation for CCAR, other regulatory, and Internal risk management needs. The candidate is required to have strong communication skills, as they will be also responsible for presenting scenario design to various working groups, prepare and present at various review and challenge sessions, and provide leadership to a team of 3-4 employees. Through the course of on-site regulatory and internal audit exams, the candidate will be responsible for coordinating written responses to regulatory questions, coordinating on internal audit exams and remediation’s, and preparing regulatory presentations.
The responsibilities include:
• Develop scenario narrative and shocks for trading book, and lead the scenario design discussions in various internal review and challenge sessions
• Liaison with team members, and Risk Managers, in completing CCAR scenario design under tight time pressure while maintaining high degree of documentation standards per internal specifications and targeted to satisfy regulatory expectations
• Other responsibilities will also include working closely with CCAR stress loss production team and risk managers in planning and remediation of audit findings, risk identification, and management of internal documentation requirements for trading and counterparty portfolios, to ensure compliance with new regulatory and internal guidelines and standards
Qualifications
Skills Required / Highly Desired
• Minimum Master’s degree in Finance or Economics
• Strong knowledge on a variety of traded products within Fixed Income, or Equities
• Prior experience in market risk management or product research / trading scenario design
• Avid reader, and forward looking thinker with the confidence and outlook to take ideas on design and capture of emerging risks forward
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Strong organization skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise; ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Ability to work in a small team environment, building and maintain a network of contacts and coordinating with a large number of stakeholders
• Experience in management by influence, facilitating and gaining consensus
