General Directive: Responsible for managing the log merchandizing program for Hancock Forest Management’s Atlantic Division (ATL). These tasks are to be performed in a team environment involving HFM personnel across the Southern Region (MS, AL, FL, GA, NC, SC, VA) in the Division.
Scope:
Log Quality Support:
• Consult regularly with the Region Manager to understand current pricing structure and implications of manufacturing on maximizing value.
• Work closely with Area Managers, Forester and Loggers to ensure volume and value is optimal. Understand current sorting by job and how these fit into the overall marketing plans and sale obligations for the region.
• Current Wood Supply Agreements (WSA’s)
◦ Maximize value by insuring proper log manufacture by contractors while meeting objectives of the various WSA’s across the southern region.
• Non-WSA volume
◦ Work with contractors and harvest foresters to facilitate maximum value of processed logs off of landings.
◦ Work with contractors and harvest foresters to communicate proper sorting and mill delivery locations to meet marketing objectives.
• Regularly visit all customer scale yards and communicate opportunities for improved value back to contract loggers and harvest administrators.
• Develop strong working relationships with Mill customers.
◦ Be familiar with log yard procedures and customer needs.
◦ Work to insure delivered logs meet mill specifications while balancing value considerations of HFM clients.
• Perform regular mill checks insure accurate scale from customers.
Analysis Support:
• Aid in the gathering of market information and collaborate with the Region Manager and RST’s Operations Analyst to support the following.
◦ Log Pricing Projections
◦ Marketing recommendations
◦ Development of annual harvest plans and operating schedules
• Support and help develop/implement regular log quality reporting back to local Divisional Staff.
Divisional Responsibilities:
• Work in a team environment while supporting harvest operations across the south.
• Regular travel will be required in an effort to cover the wide geography associated with the southern region.
• Work safely and collaborate with the rest of the staff to create a safe work environment for all.
• Support the implementation of the HFM NA stewardship program such to meet or exceed all SFI requirements
Requirements:
• A bachelor’s degree in Forestry is a minimum, graduate degree is a plus
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in an operations-focused position
• Knowledgeable in areas of log markets, product specifications, merchandizing and contract coordination
• Self-motivation
• Demonstrate strong computer and analytical skill-sets, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, and GPS
• Must be a strong team player and leader
• Must have strong communication skills
• Client-service oriented and customer focus
