=Ameritas Life Insurance Corp is seeking a Director Information Technology to drive the business by managing the efforts of a team of application developers. Responsible for the effective delivery and utilization of information technology through leadership within IT and across the organization. Partners with business area to develop plans to meet their business strategies and objectives. Applies multi-dimensional expertise in IT, project management, people management, planning and development.
Essential Job Functions:
• Responsible for improving project delivery processes, particularly as it relates to application development.
• Responsible for identifying gaps in project delivery processes at any point in the delivery project life cycle. Also responsible to work with the appropriate business and/or IT leaders to close the identified gap.
• Responsible for identifying operational inefficiencies that exist, either in IT or between IT and the business unit. Also responsible to work with the appropriate business and/or IT leaders to eliminate the inefficiency.
• Responsible for improving relationships that are impacting IT's ability to deliver value to the business unit
• Provides leadership to managers, supervisors and/or professional staff, providing general guidance or direction with regard to priorities, alignment, expectations, and resource issues.
• Accountable for the performance and results of one to multiple related teams.
• Responsible for appropriate staff selection, setting associate objectives, completing performance reviews and administering salary changes. Inherent in this accountability is adherence to all applicable corporate guidelines and standards.
• Plans, organizes, and manages the activities required to support IT needs of assigned functional areas.
• Oversees the development of work plans for operations and key projects. Resolves resource and prioritization conflicts through decision-making guided by IT Department and business strategies and plans.
• Makes decisions guided by resource availability and department objectives.
• Develops work plans, including business, production and/or organizational priorities.
• Applies business and management expertise to achieve financial and operational objectives within or across units.
• Directs the resolution of highly complex or unusual problems. Problem resolution may be related to the financial, strategic, technical or operational environments, or may be the result of a business request or need.
• Accountable for the performance of operational support infrastructure, technologies, or applications developed and the satisfaction of partners and clients. Inherent in this accountability is adherence to IT standards and guidelines.
• Demonstrates, by practice, a commitment to IT directions, strategies and values. Ensures directions and strategies are appropriately incorporated into department deliverables.
• Works with IT management team to promote effective communication, maintains understanding of priorities and ensures technical translation of business requirements into cost effective business & system solutions.
• Applies broad business and management expertise to drive financial and operational performance. This is accomplished through partnerships with members of the IT Management Team and key stakeholders in each of the business lines.
• Establishes and monitors long term objectives, unit cost measures and customer service measures of availability and on-time delivery of project and department commitments.
• Develops leadership by delegating authority and responsibility while maintaining ultimate accountability.
• Markets IT to the business community by creating an awareness of the value of IT and what IT can do.
• Applies expert knowledge of and experience with project management methodologies, as well as IT and business knowledge to manage cross-project coordination and interdependencies, as well as provide oversight of progress for critical initiatives. Actively ensures projects are on track and provides value to project managers in resolving project and cross-project issues.
• Ensures timely completion of departmental resource planning, providing consistently reliable estimates. Ensures completion of estimates for annual planning process.
• Contributes to the development of the department annual plan and budget.
• Manages resources and budget to ensure financial and operational objectives are met.
• As a member of the IT management team, drives the development of overall objectives, policies, control techniques, standards and operating procedures for the entire department.
• Makes decisions--guided by departmental business plans--that impact the support and funding of projects, products, services and/or technologies.
• Leads by example through knowledge of company tools and policies, OIT tools, policies and system structure, IT Best Practices, Department Standards, and Ameritas IT Flow
• Provides leadership when changes are needed in company tools and policies
• Recognized need and provides leadership when changes are needed in IT Best Practices or Methodologies. Completes other tasks as assigned.
Application Development Functions:
• Provides leadership, guidance and assistance to the application development organization in order to accomplish the following:i
• dentify and implement strategic development tools and languages
• Drive efficiency into the development process
• Identify optimization opportunities at the team and enterprise level
• Assist with defining the process for building systems of record vs systems of engagement
• Help implement services architecture
• Define what good development looks like
• Provide guidance on development best practices
Required Knowledge and Skills:
• Four year degree in Information Technology or Computer Science with advanced designations highly desirable.
• Minimum of fifteen years experience in IT-related profession.
• Minimum of five years experience of IT Technology delivery in insurance or financial services industry.
• Minimum of ten years management experience.
• Ability to manage and monitor multiple complex initiatives concurrently.
• Excellent oral and written communication and listening skills.
• Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.
• Demonstrates leadership and teamwork skills as well as ability to work effectively with associates at all levels of the organization.
• Strong track record of leading and implementing innovative technology solutions.
• Maintain management peer relationships.
• Facilitation, conflict resolution and teamwork skills are essential.
