Reporting to the Head of Risk and Control for the Regional Bank, the Business Unit Risk Partner Lead is responsible for the implementation and execution of the non-credit risk management framework in the lines of business. Acting as both a consulting subject matter expert as well as a co-owner of risk identification, assessment, management, reporting and mitigation, the incumbent will collaborate with the leadership in each line of business to determine how roles and responsibilities will be assigned, implemented and managed in accordance with MUAH risk management policies and governance. As an extension of the First Line of Defense leadership team, the Business Unit Risk Partner Lead will coordinate and engage with the Second Line of Defense and Third Line of Defense in areas such as risk appetite, risk metrics, issue resolution and scenario analysis. This role will also coach and manage team members to partner with key stakeholders to balance the efficiency of consistent role alignment and practices within the Regional Bank with the unique needs of each individual business’ capabilities and product/service offerings.

Major Responsibilities
• Contribute as senior leader in R&C in the formulation of strategy and tactics to meet organizational goals for client satisfaction, timeliness, quality, financial results and employee engagement.
• Direct staff of operational risk management professionals to partner with a wide variety of lines of business in the creation, assessment, monitoring, controlling, mitigation and reporting of non-credit risks, metrics, controls and issues to achieve risk management organizational goals in alignment with MUAH policies and procedures.
• Negotiate role and responsibility assignments (including cost allocations) between R&C and the lines of business to improve efficiency while addressing individual business’ capabilities and product/service offerings.
• Create and manage an escalation process for constructive engagement with the Second and Third Lines of Defense regarding differences or conflicts in operational risk appetite, risk metric determination or evaluation, issue severity or other areas of dispute.
• Lead team members in their collaboration with the leadership of Operational Risk Services to schedule, tailor, guide and approve its activities and deliverables to meet the needs of each line of business.
• Lead and coach team members to ensure all activities and deliverables achieve their timeliness, quality and accuracy service levels.
• Create and execute a framework for staying informed and current on the risk appetite and metrics of peer organizations and industry leaders, and incorporate findings as appropriate into Regional Bank risk management disciplines and approaches.
• Lead and collaborate as the representative of R&C’s, BURCO’s, and/or the Regional Bank’s interests in committees, task forces, meetings and projects as needed.
Qualifications
• 15+ years of experience with increasing responsibility delivering risk management execution across multiple business lines offering a wide variety of financial services products and services.
• 5+ years of experience managing product or service delivery to financial services customers.
• Change & Process Management Consulting experience preferred.
• BA or BS Degree in Finance or Business Administration preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Deep knowledge of the financial services sector, particularly with the competitive dynamics and products in retail banking and risk management.
• Developed understanding and demonstrated application of operational risk identification and mitigation practices and procedures, including in a digital environment.
• Developed understanding of the regulatory environment and how the risks of the products and services the bank offers are viewed by the Second Line of Defense and regulators.
• Demonstrated judgement in escalation, ensuring risk-based clear line of sight for senior executives into existing and emerging issues/incidents.
• Ability to build credibility with, collaborate with, and influence line of business executives.
• Ability to build, present and negotiate a position based on metrics and facts.
• Ability to develop a mentoring culture with both senior experienced team members and junior staff.
• Ability to collaborate with internal and external service providers to establish resource requirements, scheduling, assignments and service levels.
• Ability to anticipate the impact of regulatory and other environmental factors and proactively take action to ensure the team/function/enterprise is prepared.
• Ability to communicate effectively up and down the organizational structure (spoken and written).
• Ability to build internal and external networks of information resources within the risk management ecosystem.
