Job Description:
The Public Fixed Income Team is responsible for managing the global public bond and money market holdings of Sun Life, which totals approximately C$70 billion, across currencies. Analysis focuses largely on North American and European investment grade corporate credit. Analysts are responsible for industry sectors, with accountabilities including monitoring existing global portfolios, participating in cross sector discussions, maintain fundamental rankings and recommending portfolio additions/deletions based on credit, issue terms and market trading levels.
The public fixed income credit analyst team works closely with portfolio managers and traders based in North America (Toronto ON, CA and Wellesley MA, USA). A successful candidate must have the ability to be a value-added partner to portfolio managers, traders and other analysts on the team.
This role encompasses the following responsibilities:
• Completion of industry and company specific recommendations using quantitative and qualitative assessments
• Monitoring existing portfolio positions and make relative value recommendations based on a combination of bottom-up and top-down fundamental credit analysis
• Understanding macroeconomic conditions and adjust recommendations accordingly
• Completion of comprehensive analysis of new corporate credits as well as annual credit reviews
• Assessing appropriate internal credit rating for individual securities
• Conducting meetings with corporate issuers and industry analysts
• Creating and presenting credit, industry specific or other topical reviews to internal groups
• Forming strong relationships with borrowers, industry analysts and with multiple internal groups
• Completing and maintaining all required documentation
Qualifications:
• Post-secondary degree in Business/Economics/Finance
• 4-6 years of financial analysis experience in a credit research role
• Ability to work independently in a time sensitive environment, have a strong attention to detail and have the ability to multi-task
• Strong communication skills (verbal/written/listening)
• Ability to work closely in a team based environment
Assets:
• Experience in the energy & materials sector
• Completion of CFA program
