Overview
SMBC's US Corporate Banking Department is seeking an Executive Director to lead the Technology focused team in San Francisco. As the Product and Team Lead, the position will be responsible for the origination, execution and maintenance of client relationships in order to generate profitable new business opportunities in the Technology industry vertical and the wider SMBC organization. This position will also originate business with new and existing clients and drive broader cross-sell opportunities for the Bank globally.
Responsibilities
• Oversee team that develops and pitches ideas to augment client relationships and obtain transaction mandates.
• Generate ideas / source transactions and pitch M&A financing ideas to clients across the capital structure, cross-sell various corporate and commercial banking products and services to a diverse client base.
• Successfully manage complex credit situations, renegotiate terms with clients and other lenders, and provide comprehensive feedback to management and Credit that protect the interests of the Bank.
• Builds deeper engagement for existing relationships, creating a revenue generating portfolio with consistent return on risk capital and minimal credit losses.
• Manage the relationship and ongoing monitoring of the portfolio of existing clients pro-actively owning, responding to and anticipating any future needs, challenges or risks.
• Work with product specialists and subject matter experts across the bank to structure customized solutions that meet clients’ unique needs.
• Leverage the expertise and capabilities of other SMBC businesses to better achieve mutual business goals together.
• Provide guidance, training, management, and leadership to junior relationship managers.
• Stays abreast of industry trends and developments.
• Build and manage client global relationships with large and emerging Technology companies
Qualifications
Experience: 15 + years of specialized experience. Experience in the Technology industry.
Education: BA/BS required. MS/MBA preferred.
Licenses / Certifications / Registrations: Series 79 and 63 preferred.
Skills/Abilities:
• Expert ability to cross sell banking products and services and think creatively about developing new business from customers.
• Mature network of industry contacts yielding a permanent project pipeline to deploy resources.
• Expert ability to build a network of relationships across SMBC to obtain a detailed understanding of the overall needs of our corporate clients globally, especially as it pertains to trade finance solutions, and to facilitate seamless execution.
• Deep knowledge of the Technology industry and understanding of capital markets (public equity, private equity, investment grade debt, sub-investment grade debt and private debt) and capital markets transactions.
• Expert knowledge of loan structuring, pricing dynamics and debt capital structure across corporate ratings grid.
• Expert ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal teams to build an effective and resilient sales culture that grows new relationships while deepening existing ones.
• Strong analytical skills and credit background with proven ability to determine credit worthiness of potential borrowers.
• Expert ability to communicate effectively through both verbal and written means.
• Listens actively and engage others for their opinions; demonstrate strong negotiation and selling skills. Experience in financial modelling and analysis of strategic and corporate finance transactions.
