Director & Actuary, Projections Data and Analytics Capabilities Lead
The Projections Capabilities team is a part of the Actuarial Projections Center of Excellence (CoE). The Capabilities team is responsible for working with multiple business partners such as Modeling CoE and Finance to:
• Drive the development of capabilities to support full financial projections (including balance sheets and income statements) for the domestic business units
• Enable the CoE to utilize those projections to proactively develop insights and analysis to influence and drive business decisions, and,
• Support the Deterministic Projections Capabilities (DPC) program to ensure actuarial projection capabilities can support forecasting requirements
The Projections Capabilities team is seeking a leader with a high degree of intellectual curiosity, the ability to devise creative solutions to problems, and a continuous improvement mindset. This person will drive the development of capabilities for the Projections CoE to transform data and analytics into insights that lead to impactful business actions. This includes leadership of capabilities around data transformation, storage, exploration, and transmission
Qualifications
Primary Job Responsibilities:
The Director & Actuary, Projections Data and Analytics Capabilities Lead reports directly to the head of the Projections Capabilities team. Key responsibilities for this position are as follows:
• Drive the strategy and develop user requirements for the Actuarial Liability Data Warehouse on behalf of the Projections CoE
• Collaborate with other members of the Projections CoE to understand and articulate their needs with respect to data, reporting, and analytics, and translate those data needs into user requirements for purposes of capability development
• Lead the development of data exploration, analysis, and visualization tools use to analyze the output from various projection processes (such as cash flow testing and forecasting)
• Prioritize capability development by developing an understanding of the potential financial or operational implications of potential work, and articulating those priorities to stakeholders to achieve buy-in
• Ensure post-model data transformation, storage, and transmission is streamlined and automated to meet user and other corporate requirements (such as requirements established by the Deterministic Projection Capabilities program)
• Drive Capability development by proactively identifying enhancement opportunities, managing a dedicated agile team, and planning out continuous enhancements to support Projections analysis and insights
Desired Qualifications and Characteristics:
• Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) with 5-7 years of business/actuarial experience
• High-energy individual who brings positivity and optimism to their work, and who invests heavily in the success of the people around him or her
• High degree of curiosity coupled with courage and strong judgment; is not afraid to ask questions, challenge the status quo, and make recommendations
• Strong ability to convey technical concepts to a wide variety of audiences, including senior leadership
• Working knowledge of technical modeling platforms including Excel, Access, and GGY AXIS
• Working knowledge of databases and query language (e.g., SQL)
• Working knowledge of and experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Oracle, Tableau, Power BI) a plus
