The primary duties of the
Public Affairs Manager are to:
• Plan and implement the regional public affairs efforts and traffic safety advocacy programs, in conjunction with corporate policy/initiatives and local and state government agencies. Monitor and advise Director, Public Affairs of legislative issues related to the motoring public and the Club’s business lines.
• Work closely with regional Boards and other business lines within the Club, for example, Driver Safety Services and the Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety & Education to accomplish traffic safety goals and objectives.
• Initiate and respond to news media information requests; using PC equipment and various graphics, word processing programs and the internet to create and distribute media releases, media kits, and other public relations material. Represent the organization by attending events and speaking at local area meetings.
• Prepare speeches for self and other managers or executives (including the President) for various Public Relations events.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field with a minimum of four years experience in a public and government relations environment involving safety education, public speaking and writing
• Knowledge of relevant issues and legislation,
• Ability to work autonomously, speak in public and interact with various levels of individuals, including governmental officials
• Creative talents in order to develop new, innovative promotional tactics
• Social Media skills (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)
• Familiarity with online advocacy programs, such as CapWiz.
