Title: Assistant Vice President, Strategy and Transformation
Location: Boston, MA
Reports to: Head of Strategy and Transformation
Job Summary:
The overall mandate of the U.S. Division Strategy and Transformation group is to partner cross-functionally to define, champion, and drive divisional goals in alignment with John Hancock/Manulife strategic objectives and client/customer needs. The Director of Strategy and Transformation is an integral contributor to this mission; partnering across business lines to refine strategic objectives, translate strategies into discrete priorities, drive quality execution of initiatives, and monitor, measure and communicate results.
Key Accountabilities:
Strategy: Support the development, implementation & communication of the US Division Strategy
• Support the continued refinement of the US Division Strategy partnering with business and functional teams
• Work closely with Finance and other team to translate the divisional strategy into a multi-year financial plan
• Partner with team members, to translate the divisional strategy into a cohesive portfolio plan
• Support the communication of the US Strategy across the division and with Manulife; including the development of necessary executive presentations and materials
• As necessary, further focus strategy through the evaluation of key external market trends, competitive positions, industry disruptors etc.
• As needed, lead, facilitate, and/or provide support on projects related to strategy development e.g., research of a specific customer trend
Transformation and Execution: Support the transformation of US Division ensuring quality execution of strategic goals
• As needed, lead, facilitate, and/or provide support on strategic initiatives; these initiatives could include select enterprise-focused strategic initiatives, mergers & acquisitions, research & development, multi business unit initiatives, and large-scale transformation and change efforts.
• For assigned objectives within the US Strategy, monitor progress on execution to ensure on track to achieve medium and long-term objectives with flex to take advantage of emerging opportunities.
• In partnership with other team members, monitor divisional performance, providing monthly, quarterly and annual reporting. Monitor the project portfolio and report on status (scope, budget and timeliness).
Stakeholder Management:
• Partner and collaborate effectively across business and functional teams at all levels
• Engage teams in transparent discussions around progress against strategy; ensure awareness and understanding via strong relationships enabled by trust
• Partner closely with Finance professionals to ensure the integrity of and the useful application of project financials.
• Support all Global and Divisional strategic, project portfolio, and initiative reporting.
Job Requirement:
• 15+ years demonstrated experience in strategy development and execution
• A high degree of business acumen in the financial services sector
• Proven experience leading a large-scale transformation change initiative
• Strong Project Portfolio Management Skills, including the ability to manage multiple complex projects at the same time and under tight deadlines, operating in a cross-functional environment.
• Demonstrated ability to develop strategies and tactics in collaboration with external (e.g., consultants) and internal partners (e.g., Business Units).
• Strong communication skills
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
• Strong analytical skills and ability to deliver actionable recommendations based on analysis. Ability to translate analyses, using mediums to drive comprehensible recommendations (e.g., dashboards, graphics, summaries, etc.).
• Experience working with agile teams
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, or equivalent
• MBA preferred
