Responsibilities
• Responsible for the overall design, implementation, communication and administration of the organization’s communication programs, policies and procedures.
• Ensures that communication programs support the organization’s strategic objectives.
• Ensures communication programs attain maximum audience engagement and promote a positive corporate image.
• Maintains expert knowledge of local, trade and industry trends and best practices. Consults with executive leadership on methods to maintain an effective corporate identity and market brand.
• Identifies and secures approval necessary for the release of communications.
• Serves as a primary authority with various service providers. Identifies, researches, recommends and negotiates services with communication service providers.
• May participate in the development and execution of the company’s media relation efforts, including serving as a back-up for the company spokesperson and coaching / counseling executives on media relations. May participate in responding to media requests for information in an accurate and timely manner and according to company policy / practice.
• Ensures quality of work and services provided.
◦ Develops and oversees internal controls to ensure accuracy, timeliness and quality of work.
◦ Monitors management reports on service levels, activity, customer experience and other work products of staff.
◦ Ensures that effective business relationships with internal and/ or external customers/coworkers are developed and maintained.
◦ Identifies and implements methods to improve processes, procedures, customer service and satisfaction.
• May participate in communications to investors / shareholders.
• Ensures the department or functional area meets policies and practices. Aligns unit with business objectives.
• Plans both short-term and long-term objectives and ensures that the unit meets budget and performance targets.
• Provides tactical leadership and strategic direction to improve the efficient operation and cost-effectiveness of processes and programs.
• Obtains appropriate approvals.
• Has accountability for performance, development, and coaching of staff (i.e., hiring, firing, performance management, salary increases, etc.). Ensures the department has a sufficient number of trained staff to provide necessary levels of service and achieve department performance results.
• Demonstrates expert knowledge of regulatory guidelines and agencies pertaining to communications, advertising and marketing materials.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Field of Study: Business, Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism or a related discipline.
Experience: 10 or more years of related experience, including at least 2 to 4 years management experience.
