Overview
Mastercard Labs is Mastercard’s global Research and Development division, focused on the evolution of technological and consumer trends and the implication of these evolutions on the payments industry. Our tried, tested and proven methodologies enable us to generate new ideas from a variety of sources, and fast-track the best ideas from concept through prototype, pilot and into commercialization faster than ever before.
The Director, Product Development & Innovation, is an innovator who will drive the development of new solution concepts that extend Mastercard’s businesses and address the needs of Mastercard’s clients – Financial Institutions, businesses, consumers, and governments. The role will be primarily responsible for advancing Mastercard’s strategic perspective, policy response, and innovation efforts around the potential introduction of a Central Bank issued digital currency (CBDC).
This role will partner across Mastercard’s business and functional lines to assess CBDC market developments and examine CBDC from a technical, economic, and regulatory / policy perspective to drive Mastercard’s efforts in this space. In addition, the role will assist in advancing innovation projects focused on creating new products in non-carded payment flows. This role will require engaging with regulatory / policy stakeholders and involves a combination of product design and innovation expertise (e.g. fintech or regtech), as well an understanding of treasury and transaction banking fundamentals and monetary and regulatory policy.

Role
• Advance Mastercard’s digital currency efforts, developing market specific responses in priority markets and leading market response and position in digital currencies
• Engage and interface with players / regulators in the market as needed to develop detailed market view and positions in partnership with other Mastercard stakeholders
• Lead efforts in prototype development, identifying and validating value propositions, defining business and functional requirements while collaborating with Mastercard product, technology, and regional teams
• Assist in other new payment flows innovation related projects in the non-carded payments space (e.g. B2B)
All About You
• Experience in transaction banking and or treasury management with a focus on high value payments and at least one major core banking, credit card, or payment system platform.
• Able to navigate complex organizations, interacting with senior management, business operations, business product management, and multiple technical teams to define, deliver and communicate complex ideas.
• Entrepreneurial attitude with experience in innovating new products and services (ideally fintech/regtech), from concept to pilot stages in a start-up or a fast-paced corporate environment.
• Results and execution oriented and able to work autonomously with a focus on delivery of high quality outputs.
• Strong written and oral communication (i.e. ability to explain material in an accessible way), interpersonal and influencing skills with proven ability to build relationships both internally and externally.
• Analytical and strategic skills.
