Job Description:
We have a need for an Associate Director to serve as a member of the US asset-liability management team. The Associate Director Asset-Liability Management will coordinate the production of asset projection for use in Valuation, Plan, DCAT and LICAT, NAIC asset adequacy testing. In addition the Associate Director will oversee the update of any recommended changes in actuarial assumptions and their implementation in models as part of the annual review of assumptions and methods. The position also includes management of a small team and reports to Director, ALM. This position will support Sun Life Financial’s U.S. Business Group, and would be expected to spend the majority of his/her time at the U.S. headquarters in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
Responsibilities
• Manage production of asset files for quarterly valuation and LICAT subject to all necessary SOX related and other actuarial controls.
• Implement ALM ACMA
• Provide ALM support for Business Plan/DCAT/Strat Plan, and other needs
• Provide support for Year End work (AAR, AOM, etc)
• Provide support for AXIS asset model enhancements, and oversee implementation in the business unit models
• Manage quarterly production of reporting to Corporate Risk Office for Foreign Exchange Risk, AFS earnings at risk, and general ALM as requested
• Build new reporting and analytical capabilities, as directed by manager
• Pursue a number of open-ended projects including:
◦ Support insurance liability pricing initiatives as desired by the business units
◦ Support the implementation of new Corporate-wide initiatives (e.g. IFRS 17)
• Provide support to the AVP and Director Asset-Liability Management in other projects throughout the year.
• Manage and train the reporting actuarial students
Preferred skills
• Strong attention to details and project management skills
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
• Ability to critically review processes and procedures to find efficiencies and areas of improvement
Qualifications
• Newly appointed FSA or close to finishing exams
• Modeling Experience, Moody’s AXIS a plus
