Job Summary:
MUFG’s Internal Audit for the Americas (IAA) function is embarking upon a period of multi-year change which will result in expanded regional and global responsibilities. The Audit Quality Assurance (QA) team, under the MUFG Americas Deputy Chief Audit Executive (DCAE), oversees the Americas Quality Assurance and Improvement Program (QAIP). The IAA QAIP provides reasonable assurance to the various stakeholders of IAA, including management and the MUAH Audit and Finance Committee (AFC), that IAA performs their work in accordance with IAA methodology, professional standards and regulatory expectations; operate in an effective and efficient manner; and, add value and improve IAA’s operations.
The Director, Audit QA is a senior management role within IAA. It reports to the MUFG Americas DCAE and is responsible for leading the management, strategy and execution of the QA program across the Americas. The incumbent is expected to be a people leader, functioning as an effective project manager and be able to contribute to the overall advancement and integration of core (audit department) objectives across IAA. The incumbent must provide thought leadership in audit practices; be able direct methodology enhancements; possess excellent information generation / presentation (technical, influence) skills; and, communicate effectively with senior peer and senior team management regionally and globally.
Major Responsibilities:
• Drive the QA strategy, including leading a team in the execution of the QA program and reviews over audit activities and communicate (verbally and written) individual reports and roll-up reports to the IAA Executive Leadership Team and CAE on QA activity.
• Lead key QA projects and initiatives, ensuring that key milestones are tracked, measured, and achieved.
• Maintain audit expertise and knowledge of industry best practices
• Anticipate emerging issues that impact IAA’s risk (practice) profile, Audit Methodology and Audit Practices. A resident subject matter expert on the Audit Methodology, and responsible for identifying opportunities and driving enhancements to the audit methodology (as a result of QA reviews and Advisory initiatives).
• Identify methodology enhancements and partner with the Audit Practices Team
• Best Practices: enhance, implement and streamline leading audit practices, processes and strategy across the Americas
• Support the Department-Wide Training Program / Coordination with Audit Practices on Training: 1) Organize, coordinate and facilitate training across IAA 2) Develop and provision training on select audit related topics
• Work with the DCAE on select projects and initiatives to drive strategy and strengthen audit quality both locally and globally.
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive program to review audit deliverables against internal and external standards (professional practices) and internal policies and procedures
• Execute periodic (constant) review of selected audit reviews
• Communicate results and recommendations (lesson learned) for improvements to Audit Management
• Maintain audit product expertise and knowledge of industry best practices around methodology and QA
• Anticipate emerging issues that impact the department’s risk (practice) profile
Qualifications
• Bachelors’ Degree, preferably in accounting, finance, or related business discipline, at an accredited college or university.
• Advanced Degree preferred.
• Professional auditing certifications, such as the CIA, CPA, or CFSA, are highly desirable.
• Ten or more years of relevant internal audit, financial services risk advisory, or risk management experience.
• Experience with the financial services industry, related markets, and related regulatory agencies.
• Deep knowledge of risk assessment, quality control, audit methodology, and audit practices
• Proven track record in project management and coordination / integration efforts across multiple groups.
• Other skills as required in assigned areas of responsibility.
