POSITION SUMMARY:
The Derivatives Accounting and Reporting team is responsible for the investment accounting and reporting for TIAA’s derivative programs. Combined, the portfolio accounted for and reported on is approximately $18 billion Notional across various derivative types. The group is seeking a Senior Investment Accountant to lead the daily, monthly and quarterly accounting and reporting for the team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Perform month-end close process, cash reconciliations, journal entries, and associated account reconciliations
• Perform internal and external financial reporting for derivative products owned by TIAA and its affiliates
• Utilize technology and enterprise resource tools to streamline various accounting and reporting processes
• Develop relationships with business partners across securities accounting, mortgage accounting, middle office and trading desk, corporate tax, risk management, regulatory reporting and investment reporting to ensure accurate processing and reporting for derivative products
• Stays informed of accounting and industry developments. Applies technical knowledge to ensure workload is completed within the guidelines set by standard setters and regulators
• Perform ad-hoc reporting to fulfill requests from business partners
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Skills, Degree(s), Certification(s) and/or License(s):
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 5+ years of basic knowledge of accounting for various types of derivative instruments
• Ability to analyze financial data and transactions to ensure appropriate data integrity and reporting
• Produce a work product that is clear, organized, accurate, and performed within often aggressive timelines
• Ability to conduct research on new derivative products and industry developments and communicate the potential impact on business operations
• A basic understanding of capital markets and investments
• Previous financial services experience
Preferred Skills, Degree(s), Certification(s) and/or License(s):
• CPA or CPA eligible
• Derivatives accounting and reporting experience
• Superior communication skills, both oral and written
• Thorough analytical skills
• Superior problem solving and decision making skills with limited guidance from management
• Previous experience with ePAM, Murex, PeopleSoft, and/or Oracle Business Intelligence Tools
• Prior Statutory (SSAP) and GAAP knowledge for derivatives and securities is a plus, but must be able to effectively analyze, interpret, and apply relevant guidance, as necessary
• Possess the ability and drive to become a subject matter expert in the field of derivative accounting and reporting
