The Director of M&A Strategy will lead strategic M&A teams through all phases of the deal lifecycle, create, evaluate, review, and implement new business plans and initiatives, and develop strategic and financial models and analyses.
• Provides expertise to identify & review opportunities aligned with our long-term strategy;
• Drives all workstream efforts supporting strategic acquisitions & divestitures; proactively identifying prospects, creating relationships with banks and other financial institutions and/or target companies;
• Develops relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to determine alignment on and feasibility of a deal, vetting the structure according to financial targets for profitable growth;
• Key point person to meet with banks & external advisors on a global basis;
• Responsible for ensuring proposed deals & structure align with New York Life’s model & strategic direction and financial assumptions;
• Works closely with NYLIM Chief Adminstrative Officer in development and execution of negotiating strategy with banks and other stakeholders, supporting the deal process and coordinating with other teams as appropriate;
• Responsible for reporting and status updates on each deal;
• Identifies, develops & streamlines repeatable processes for successful deal diligence & integration;
Present to Senior Management.
The group reports to the firm’s Chief Administrative Officer who is a member of the Executive Office and Management Committee. The group develops, evaluates, and executes plans for new businesses and growth initiatives and leads strategic transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, and joint ventures, on behalf of New York Life Investment Management.
Responsibilities
• Lead all aspects of deal process from start to finish
• Lead & direct team for due diligence including liaison with business units and enterprise functions
• Identify deal prospects & targets
• Oversee and review financial modeling for strategic alignment
• Negotiate with key stakeholders
• Lead internal alignment and issue resolution on a transaction
• Manage subject matter experts (legal, finance, tax etc) in preparation for closing
• Lead post-closing activity
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree
• 8 years M&A experience including leading all aspects of M&A transactions
• Highly motivated
• Strong Financial and Analytical skills
• Team player
Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced degree, i.e. MBA
• 8-15+ years’ experience in acquisition & divestitures and other complex transactions.
• Strong leadership, financial, analytical, communication, relationship building, coordination and organizational skills, particularly associated with administering and directing activity under complex M&A agreements; financial modeling skills; excellent execution skills & ability to multi task & prioritize
• Highly motivated and performance driven
