This position will provide support for the development, review, and production of client-facing performance reports as well as related firm-wide performance data and analytics. The Associate Director will report to the SVP of Performance Analytics and will work directly with Private Wealth Management front-office stakeholders and operational teams to ensure report quality and availability.
Responsibilities
1. Provide tools and professional support to client-facing teams to analyze, comprehend, and communicate the drivers of portfolio performance.
• Research and respond to performance issues and question raised by Wealth Managers (WMs), Client Service Associates (CSAs) and Research.
• Actively monitor performance data for consistency and proactively resolve data issues.
• Proactively identify and communicate performance trends and exceptions.
• Partner with Technology and Operations to develop processes and procedures to maximize accuracy and efficiency.
• Partner with Investment Management and Research to find creative solutions to optimize the client experience.
• Provide responsive, professional support that is reflective of a culture of respect and exceptional service.
2. Work with the Performance Team to provide a comprehensive, accurate, and unbiased view of client portfolios measured against established asset allocation targets and risk/return assumptions.
The Associate Director will work as a subject matter expert to:
• Develop systems and processes to ensure consistently accurate position, performance, and benchmark data.
• Deliver a suite of performance reports that provides insight into the drivers of portfolio performance and underscores the firm’s stewardship and value.
• Create an engaging on-line experience that will allow clients to interact with their portfolios and deepen their understanding of the composition and performance of their investments.
• Evolve to exceed client expectations and competitive offerings.
3. Provide managerial insight into the sources of the change in the value of assets under management and the performance of specific investment strategies against benchmarks.
• Develop processes and reports to analyze and monitor, cash flow, asset allocation, performance and risk at multiple levels. (i.e. Line-of Business, Region, Team, Wealth Manager, Client).
• Create and maintain composites to monitor and report on the performance of third-party managers and internally managed strategies against relevant risk and return benchmarks.
4. Monitor performance of assigned portfolios and proactively resolve data accuracy and calculation issues.
5. Partner with client teams to develop materials (analysis views and client reports) to fulfill specific requirements.
6. Identify and proactively communicate performance trends and issues to Wealth Managers, Client Service and Research.
7. Set up reporting groups, composites, templates and benchmarks.
8. Set up and lead training sessions for the Wealth Managers and Client Service teams to teach key concepts such as how to group accounts and run reports. (via WebEx or in-person).
9. Update and maintain training documents for both the Performance team and end users.
Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
• Bachelor’s Degree required. Advanced degree in Finance, Accounting or Investments strongly preferred
• 5+ years of experience in the investment industry with a focus on performance analytics and reporting (HNW or UHNW client experience greatly preferred)
• Thorough understanding of and experience with a variety of performance and risk metrics across all investment types including fixed income, equities, and alternative investments
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• High degree of mathematical competency
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• CIPM designation, interest in or progress toward the designation is strongly preferred.
• Advanced data analysis and Microsoft Excel skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Outlook
• Addepar and/or Axys/APX experience strongly preferred
• Proven performance measurement skills and a passion for creating an exceptional client experience
Physical Requirements:
• Vision must be sufficient to read data reports, manuals and computer screens.
• Hearing must be sufficient to understand a conversation at a normal volume, including telephone calls and in person.
• Speech must be coherent to clearly convey or exchange information, including the receiving and giving of assignments and/or directions.
• Position primarily involves sitting, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
• Must be able to travel if required.
