Description:
The Director position will play a key leadership role in the Corporate Strategy and Development team, which is responsible for supporting corporate strategy formation and managing business development activities across Discover. This position will be responsible for leading highly complex strategic initiatives and projects in collaboration with lines of business and functions across the enterprise.
The position reports directly to the Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Development.
Responsibilities:
• Lead projects in support of strategy and business development initiatives.
• Identify, develop, and assess new business opportunities in partnership with executive and business management.
• Track market and competitive developments in financial services and payments industries and communicate with executive and business management.
• Manage business development transactions working with internal business partners and external advisors.
• Lead evaluation of transaction economics and structures and coordinate due diligence activities.
• Maintain landscape of business development opportunities in the financial services, payments, and financial technology markets.
• Develop pipeline reporting on business development activities.
• Develop and maintain a network of relationships with investment banking, consulting and venture communities.
• Build and foster strong relationships with co-workers in lines of business and functions.
• Develop and deliver presentations for executive management.
• Promote a risk-aware culture, ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to require standards and processes.
Skills
Qualifications:
• MBA required.
• 8+ years’ work experience (2+ years post MBA) in management consulting, corporate strategy, corporate development, or investment banking
• Financial services or payments industry experience desirable
• Strong fact-based analytical and problem solving skills
• Superior written and oral communication skills
• Exceptional leadership skills and the ability to influence across lines of business and corporate functions
