The Role
The business systems analyst position is responsible for translating raw business needs into system requirements that can be acted upon by application developers and/or database administrators. In this capacity, the business systems analyst role serves as a liaison between the various business units and IT to ensure that business requirements are accurately captured. The business systems analyst creates high-level design documentation reflecting the business needs, both functional and non-functional, and generally serves in a subject matter expert capacity during the development life cycle to ensure smooth, stable and timely implementation of software enhancements that meet business expectations.
Responsibilities
• Continually enhances knowledge of business practices, the financial services industry, IT applications, and associated practices
• Analyzes multiple data sources and documents data elements, data flow, data relationships and dependencies
• Queries Databases to identify data, verify accuracy of data, analyze results of queries
• Identifies issues and risks that may be associated with design alternatives and data models
• Fully vets high-level design and data model alternatives with both business unit and IT stakeholders
• Works under Agile, Waterfall, and other adoptive SDLC models as required
• Ensures enhancements meet established quality and end user needs
• Works closely with application developers to program, test and implement system enhancements
• Ensures that requirements gathering process and the resulting high-level design meet applicable corporate standards
• Supports special assignments as directed by management
• Works closely with all levels of management within the organization to define project requirements/specifications
• Helps identify process inefficiencies and makes recommendations to streamline workflows and enhance services
• Analyzes and interprets presented business needs providing solution guidance helping technology add value to the business which may integrate process, business rules and business data with technology
• Writes high-level design specifications as applicable
Education
• 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)
Experience
• 3 - 5+ Years experience in business systems analysis that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position(Required)
• 3 - 5+ Years of experience in business systems analysis in financial services
• 3 - 5+ Years of experience with both group annuity and mutual fund based retirement plans
• 3 - 5+ Years of experience with Data Management and Data Warehouses
• 3 - 5+ Years of experience with SQL for Data Research/Data Analysis purposes
• 3+ Years of experience reviewing and analyzing multiple complex data sources and documenting data elements, data flow, relationships and dependencies
• 3+ Years of experience developing and maintaining data models
