Background:
The Consumer and Commercial Banking Division (“CCBD”) brings innovative solutions to traditional banking activities. The Urban Investment Group (UIG) is a principal investing and lending platform within the CCBD. UIG seeks to drive "double bottom line" results by deploying the firm's capital in urban communities across the United States, generating both financial return and social impact. The team makes debt and equity investments that finance affordable housing, retail and economic development projects, and manages GS Bank's Community Reinvestment Act (“CRA”) program.
GS launched 10,000 Small Businesses “10KSB” in 2010, a $500 million initiative to help small businesses create jobs and grow revenues through access to business education, business support services and access to capital. Of the $500 million, $300 million is allocated to Access to Capital. UIG is responsible for the Access to Capital component which entails structuring lending facilities with intermediary lenders and managing the relationship with those lenders. UIG asset manages each transaction and ensures that lenders comply with 10KSB Program requirements. For 10KSB, UIG works closely with the Office of Corporate Engagement that manages the educational component of 10KSB.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Responsibilities:
1) Asset management of existing portfolio of transactions
• Complete a range of asset management duties for 10KSB loans, including monitoring deployment, tracking performance and trends of 10KSB portfolio, reviewing client reports and interacting with servicing, covenants team, credit team and clients to implement amendments and waivers
2) Program management
• Manage the day to day components of the 10KSB Access to Capital program, including 10KSB reports/data such as the budget and monthly dashboard, managing execution and tracking of grants related to the program and developing marketing materials and website content
• Build and maintain strong relationships with existing 10KSb partners through quarterly client calls and industry conference attendance
• Develop and update 10KSB or UIG presentations.
3) Underwriting and due diligence of new small business transactions
• Manage due diligence and underwriting of prospective 10KSB partners (small business lending organizations), assist with diligence/underwriting of other small business transactions
4) Thought leadership activities
• Assist with management of industry initiatives to build capacity of small business lenders
• Assist with the development and execution of thought leadership events (i.e. roundtables with small business owners/lenders and industry thought leaders)
This position will work closely with the Office of Corporate Engagement, Brand Marketing, Media Relations, Operations, Credit, and other key groups within the firm; as well as with UIG’s external capital partners to manage relationships on existing deals.
Qualifications
• Demonstrated analytical, excel, powerpoint, organizational and interpersonal skills and capability designing and producing reports or memos
• Strong verbal and excellent written communication skills
• Strong client engagement skills
• Detail orientation and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of work experience in finance (lending/investing) or program management and demonstrated interest in 10KSBs mission and investment strategy. Experience with mission-driven lenders is a plus but not required.
