Job Description:
As Assistant Vice President (AVP), Communications and Retention Strategies, you will be responsible for providing communication-education and retention consulting services to VALIC’s strategic clients, with an emphasis on employee engagement. The role has two primary responsibilities. One is the development and implementation of a comprehensive and ongoing retention strategy and program to be used in partnership with Relationship Management to promote brand and participant experience, engagement and renewals. Additionally, the AVP will be responsible for enhancing all aspects of Institutional Marketing editorial strategy, messaging, campaigns, communications and copywriting, while ensuring that our C&E, Retention and Business Development initiatives are highly competitive and drive measured outcomes. Further, the AVP will work closely with members of Relationship Management and Marketing Strategy to deliver best-in-class participant communication and education programs designed to meet our clients’ retirement plan goals and objectives. This position will support Communications and Education plans and marketing programs for all client segments and markets including Higher Education, K-12, Healthcare and Government-Municipalities. This position reports to the Vice President, Institutional Marketing.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Design and build Retention strategies that help retain clients and differentiate VALIC in the marketplace. The strategy will primarily focus on Strategic Plans, however, the strategy and program elements will be scalable for Valued and Preferred clients as needed for the business.
• Provide Executive Oversight of enhanced voice and tone with plan sponsors, helping to rewrite where necessary, and train existing writers and communications consultants as needed.
• Conceptualize and develop content for Communication and Education plans for VALIC Group Retirement clients. This will include new programs to drive retirement readiness and improve overall financial wellness of plans.
·Act as Communications Consultant with Higher Ed, K-12 Healthcare and Government-Municipal markets. Collaborate with Relationship Management and Plan Sponsors to develop and execute Communications and Education plans to meet plan goals and ultimately help plan participants become retirement ready.
·Support acquisition teams (sales) by participating in Finals meetings and Finalists Presentations as needed. Effectively represent and present VALIC’s approach to participant communications and education strategies, as well as development of best in class C&E plans to support the goals of the Plan Sponsor. Participation in Benefit Consultant Site Visits and/ or Field meetings is also included in AVP responsibilities.
• Collaborate with Project Management team, internal strategy and other departments (Product, Compliance, etc.) to promote company initiatives and ensure an integrated communications approach. This will include working closely with Product on the launch of product solutions designed to drive sponsor satisfaction and increase participant engagement.
• Write creative briefs for campaigns or complex projects.
• Provide strong project management include execute project plans, manage projects “end-to-end” by managing all resources to ensure the deadlines and client deliverables are met, prepare for engagement reviews and quality assurance procedures, and ensure documents are complete, current and stored appropriately.
• Provide consultative direction on client deliverables as required for communications projects, including the customization of materials.
• Coordinate team resources within Marketing Strategy and other internal and external partners to deliver on all aspects of an integrated communication and education plan for client relationships
• Develop, execute, and monitor participant communication and education projects including print, web, and multi-media while ensuring an efficient process and overall effectiveness of communications
• Analyze participant behavior and educational needs to propose best practice solutions and/or custom solutions. This will include in depth data analytics of strategic plans (where available) and the review of post campaign analysis. Position will develop programs designed to be both customizable and as much as possible scalable across market segments and down market to Valued and Preferred plan sponsors.
• Analyze plan-specific materials to develop knowledge of each client’s plan provisions and educate business partners as appropriate
• Deliver engaging and effective presentations which demonstrate and differentiate VALIC’s communication and education capabilities
• Keep abreast of emerging trends in communications and modify Institutional Marketing’s approach, as necessary, to remain competitive while meeting our client’s needs.
• Participate, along with Institutional Marketing Team members in providing direction to central marketing utility, by setting priorities, delegating responsibilities to project management-marketing operations team, reporting, tracking, and maintaining deadlines. This will be needed for all projects, both Thought Leadership and Communication and Education Plans.
Job Requirements:
Ideal Candidate Profile
• BA/BS required
• 10+ years’ experience in employee benefits communications and/or financial services strongly preferred
• 10+ years’ communications consulting experience preferred
• Ability to manage long-term communications projects, as well as quick turn-around assignments. Must be able to lead multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to analyze business strategies and develop communications plans and programs to meet customer needs.
• High-level verbal and written communications skills necessary to consult on communication planning with all management levels and to direct development of marketing materials with project team
• Must have the ability to prepare and deliver verbal presentations
• Demonstrated ability in financial services/retirement services marketing
• Operate well in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision required
• Ability to articulate complex situations simply and in an engaging style
• Outstanding project management skills and ability to deliver projects on schedule
• Advanced interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution, relationship building and negotiation
Travel: Yes, up to 35%. Travel is required to support finals meetings, client meetings and team meetings
