Job Summary:
The Digital Innovation Manager will be responsible for researching financial technology (Fintech) companies to determine which technology may be applicable to the MUFG Bank’s, MUFG Union Bank’s, and MUFG affiliates’ current, or new business.
This will include effectively partnering with Fintech companies to utilize their technologies in MUFG and jointly conduct business with them. He/she will create strategies to implement new product development methodologies that can decrease time-to-market and bring more innovative products to MUFG Bank, MUFG Union Bank, and MUFG affiliates. The Digital Innovation Manager will do this by establishing relationships with Global IT services firms, by expanding MUFG’s network of technology partners to the U.S., by gathering information from research firms and by attending industry and technology conferences. The Digital Innovation Manager will also be responsible for identifying opportunities for affiliates of MUFG including both MUFG Bank and MUFG Union Bank to share technology partners and platforms.
Major Responsibilities:
• Support the planning of digital innovation initiatives for MUFG, which include intensive interactions with the relevant divisions in Japan, to decrease time-to-market for technology-based banking products.
• Analyze Fintech technology verticals and market to develop concrete understanding of the landscape and quickly highlight startup partners developing strategically important technology/ and business innovations for MUFG.
• Assist the sourcing of new engagement including meeting with startups, accelerators and venture capitals, and attending relevant conferences.
• Draft concise research brief and construct presentation-worthy materials.
• Monitor and maintain startup partners and aggregate information for internal reporting and communications, which encourages them to utilize their technology and jointly run business with them primarily in the Japanese market as well as markets where MUFG has a footprint.
• Coordinate and support negotiations between a Fintech company and MUFG Bank.
• Monitor areas of innovation in the banking industry, and learn about innovation practices used by fast paced California companies, then share research outcomes with MUFG.
• Assist team administration which includes senior’s schedule and expenses management.
• Ensure compliance with MUFG Union Bank's Business Standards of Conduct and all Patriot Act, CIP, Anti-Money Laundering, Bank Secrecy Act, information security and suspicious activity reporting requirements, and other regulatory and compliance policies and procedures.
• Actively participate in any required corporate and business line Compliance Training.
Qualifications
• B.A. or B.S. or equivalent experience; MBA or a master degree (Innovation Management / Corporate innovation etc) related to this position preferred.
• Minimum 3+ year successful experiences within strategic consulting firms, banking and product development in cross cultural environments.
• Solid understanding of corporate innovation and venture financing as well as fundamental knowledge/skills of strategic planning and deal tracking.
• Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills in both English and Japanese.
• Creative and passionate about leveraging new technologies to create new experiences.
• Finance/Banking knowledge/experience preferred.
