Position overview
The Information Services Division and FTSE Russell Product Management team is responsible for commercializing and delivering index products, financial information and services that meet the needs of targeted client segment across the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific regions. The division operates in a dynamic market environment where the demand for innovative benchmarks and new financial content solutions is high.
The Director of Commercial policy is a new role charged with managing three core areas: 1) business model development and innovation 2) Pricing strategy & pricing policy, and 3) commercial policy. This role will report to the Managing Director of Commercial Strategy & Policy and work closely with product, sales, and marketing teams, including business leaders, across the division.
The ideal candidate will have a background in management consulting or pricing, B2B information or software, ideally targeting the financial services industry. The candidate is a team-player with a record of delivering results in a matrixed organization.
Responsibilities
• Bring deep functional expertise and analytic rigor to the development of new business models, pricing strategy, and the application of pricing through sound commercial policies
• Own commercial policy and where appropriate develop commercial packages combining multiple products and solutions for more effective market penetration and competitor displacement.
• Balance between the need of simplifying the current, fragmented, commercial framework, while also supporting the development of new pricing policies for new product launches or product extensions
• Support the Commercial Policy Steering Group’s monthly operating rhythm to ensure decisions are made effectively and that sound policies are produced
Essential skills:
• Financial modelling: Excellent financial modelling skills and ability to join strategic plans with financial outcomes.
• Management: Managerial skills, managing team of direct reports and virtual team members across the matrix.
• Communications: Skilled in communicating and engaging with executives and senior management and peers. Excellent verbal, written and on-screen communication with ability to articulate complex issues effectively.
• Client focus and service mind-set: Understanding of client segments and ability to align with Sales and Service teams (expectation management, commercial awareness)
• Execution: Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to prioritize effectively, handle multiple projects under tight deadlines, identify/ flag/resolve potential issues early on
• Collaboration: Thrives in a complex environment. Ability to influence and work through others to get things done in a matrixed, multi-site organization; willingness to help colleagues; openness to take on new responsibilities
• Self-motivated: Takes initiative and demonstrates a high level of enthusiasm
Desired experience and qualifications:
• Background in strategy / management consulting to the financial industry. Ideally from a top-tier management consulting or buy-side firm.
• In-depth functional experience in developing pricing policies in a B2B subscription environment.
• Experience in developing winning commercial strategies and policies that leverage a large portfolio of products and solutions.
• Demonstrable years of relevant industry experience in impactful roles relevant to this position
• MBA from reputable institution or undergraduate degree or equivalent from top-10 US-based institution.
