Description
This Accounting manager role is in support of the government’s NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program) contract and the role is based in Overland Park, KS. This position will be responsible for the day to day management and oversight of Accounting and financial reporting. The Accounting manager will report into the Finance Director and have ultimate responsibility for preparing and reviewing the transactional analysis, provide validation and reconciliation of transactional records and will be responsible for the preparation and review of financial and operational reports and statements.
The ideal candidate will have experience in automating manual processes, possesses strong financial accounting acumen, including a strong understanding of GAAP. They should also possess strong attention to detail, can multi-task efficiently and effectively and ideally have prior experience with insurance and/or government contracts.
Responsibilities:
• Supervises accounting staff of one
• Plans, conducts, and participates in analysis of complex accounting assignments, ensuring that all assigned projects adhere to appropriate accounting standards.
• Reconciles balance sheet and income statement accounts to general ledger; researches more complex discrepancies and determines appropriate course of action. Prepares and or reviews complex bank reconciliations, journal entries, and expense analyses.
• Develops automated spreadsheets for account analysis and journal entries in order to keep records organized and standardized and in compliance with project rules and requirements.
• Provides status of open issues lists to and provides timely responses to business and other accounting and other functional support leaders on a daily or as need basis.
• Works effectively with remote stakeholders including the client as well as Torrent CEO, Finance Director, Program Director, accounting, compliance, IT and others.
• Partners on special projects such as accounting software updates in order to provide insight and expertise.
• Coordinates, prepares, consolidates, submits, and distributes monthly financial statements in order to meet client contractual obligations and provide management with real time financial updates
• Participate and lead discussions with the client contacts
• Conducts studies and submits recommendations for improving the organization's accounting operation to management.
• Prepares and updates of control and accounting policies manual
• Provides management, leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel.
Qualifications
Education:
• Minimum 4 Year Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field.
Experience:
• Minimum 5-7 years of related accounting or finance work experience. Knowledge and skills:
• Strong accounting skills and attention to detail
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Possesses intermediate to advanced level of Excel
• Team building and leadership
• NetSuite and/or Oracle knowledge a plus
Other requirements:
• CPA ideal, but not required
