POSITION SUMMARY
Genworth’s Long Term Care (LTC) Actuarial department is currently seeking a Director & Actuary of Experience Studies. The Director will be responsible for the LTC Actuarial Experience database environment used for the LTC assumption development process.
The Director will provide support to the experience study team to ensure accuracy of data and business rules being used in systems and analytical/reporting processes. The Director will also interact with other areas of the organization (Inforce Management, Pricing, Valuation, IT, etc.) to gather data and business requirements needed to more effectively support the LTC assumption setting process.
The Director will work closely with IT to develop and design a new database environment and introduce new analytical and reporting capabilities to ultimately modernize the experience study environment.
The Director will also oversee the execution of Experience Study SOX controls and will be responsible for designing and enhancing SOX controls to ensure completeness and accuracy of data and the reconciliation of experience study amounts.
As the Experience Study environment is modernized, the Director will have the opportunity to be involved with a variety of projects on Data Governance, Predictive Analytics and the expansion of Reporting and Analytical capabilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as business owner/driver of LTC Experience Analysis environment
• Continuously improve the experience study environment, maintaining prioritized list of necessary updates and enhancements and working with different LTC areas of the organization to implement.
• Research new data assets and facilitate making them available for experience studies.
• Consult with Experience team members and others regarding proper use of the data. Work with IT to maintain effective documentation to enable appropriate independent use of the data.
• Design controls to provide assurance regarding completeness and accuracy of the data; oversee execution of the controls and review with SOX and external auditors.
• Work with IT to develop strategic plan for redesigning/rebuilding as a part of the Data Agility effort. Serve as business subject matter expert for the effort.
Support Experience Analysis and Reporting
• Support project initiatives to improve, streamline, and automate the experience study environment.
• Design and develop approach and execute new complex reporting and analytical capabilities.
• Comply with team and company expectations regarding documentation and controls.
• Actively participate in LTC Assumption Working Group to provide input and ideas to team members working on assumption development, and to promote continuous improvement in the Genworth LTC Experience Study system environment.
• Provide formal peer reviews of the work of other team members.
Support special project initiatives: Data Governance, Predictive Analytics, Modernization of Experience Study System environment, Expanding Reporting and Analytical capabilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
• BS/BA Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or related major
• At least 7 years of relevant experience. Thorough understanding of experience study environments and data needed for experience analysis and reporting.
• Career ASA or FSA and/or Master Degree in Statistics.
• LTC actuarial work experience and/or understanding of LTC products is preferred.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Effective communication, teamwork and mentoring skills. Project management skills. Ability to manage concurrent deadlines and multiple priorities.
• Strong technical skills working with data. Demonstrated ability to work with IT to accomplish objectives.
• Experience and knowledge working with database management systems, database applications and statistical applications (examples: MS SQL, Oracle, Greenplum, SQL, SAS, PowerPivot, Excel/MS Access, Spotfire, etc.).
• Strongly prefer working knowledge of data in LTC administrative systems and claim systems, and experience working with LTC administrative areas to research business practices which impact actuarial data.
