Indirect Tax Automation Manager (State and Local Tax)
POSITION SUMMARY:
Grant Thornton’s core business is audit, tax and advisory services. The Manager in the Indirect Tax Automation Group is responsible for delivering a full range of technology consulting services to assigned clients and working closely with assigned tax staff on all phases of the assigned project and engagement management for multiple clients of the firm. Primarily the individual will work on large indirect tax system implementation and integration engagements, and will play an active role in the project requirements gathering, design, development, testing and the go-live support of these projects. This includes managing a team of staff and coordinating day-to-day activities to ensure that projects are on time and within budget based on the original scope. The individual will also provide technology support for other areas of the State & Local Tax (SALT) practice including report development, supporting data extraction projects and application development.
The individual will also participate in sales and marketing efforts including speaking engagements, drafting proposals and attending sales meetings. This Manager will immediately step into a leadership position and help run a number of active projects that are underway for our practice. This will provide the Manager a tremendous opportunity to network within our practice, meet new clients, and to grow within the firm.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serve as the Project Manager on assigned third-party tax software implementations (Vertex, Thomson Reuters, ADP, Billsoft) and custom software development projects.
• Manage assigned system integration projects that involve major ERP and billing systems, such as SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, etc.
• Requirements analysis and design for indirect tax software implementations.
• Manage programming for custom system interfaces and modification of preexisting interfaces.
• Manage testing and support of assigned system go-live projects.
• Develop and deliver key project documentation including requirements documents, design documents, and test plans
• Help develop and lead staff to enable them to perform core project activities
• Participating in Sales meetings and Proposal Development meetings.
• Network and develop key relationships both within Grant Thornton and externally
• Other duties as assigned.

• Experience – We are looking for someone with 5-10 years of experience leading technology projects and system implementations.
• Attention To Details – A must for this position as the smallest little detail makes all the difference in the success of our projects. We are looking for individuals who challenge themselves on their own deliverables to ensure that they delivered on time, are accurate, and require little rework.
• Comfortable with Technology– The resource must have a thirst for learning new technologies and must be comfortable around new systems.
• Experience Working with Data– The resource must have experience working with databases and be comfortable slicing and dicing large datasets to perform analysis for Clients
• Hard Working– Individual must be willing to put in the time and effort on projects in order to bear the fruit of all the benefits that will come working in our Practice.
Qualifications
For this position, we are looking for individuals from one of three distinct Career Paths. We believe that any of these backgrounds will provide the adequate foundation to be successful in our Practice.
SAP or Oracle ERP Implementation Specialist
• A BA/BS degree in technically related field.
• 5-10 years of direct implementation experience with one of these ERP solutions
• A deep technical understanding of the interworking of SAP or Oracle. This includes understanding the customization path in the solutions, the table structures, and the core functional Order-to-Cash and Procure-to-Pay streams
• Experience writing documentation for these types of implementations
• Experience managing and developing others for these types of implementations
• Experience querying and pulling datasets from one of these solutions
• Direct experience performing configuration in one of these solutions.
• Ability to work additional hours and travel as needed.
Tax Engine Implementation Specialist
• A BA/BS degree in technically related field.
• 5-10 years of direct implementation experience with third party indirect Tax Engines such as Vertex, OneSource (fka. Sabrix), and Taxware.
• Experience implementing these Tax Engines with a variety of ERP solutions in Order-to-Cash and Procure-to-Pay streams
• Experience with major ERP solutions including SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, and/or JD Edwards
• Global implementation experience is a bonus, US and Canada implementation experience is a must
• Experience managing and developing others for these types of implementations
• Experience querying and pulling datasets from Tax Engines
• Direct experience performing configurations in Tax Engines
• Experience writing project documentation for a Tax Engine implementation including Requirements, Design, and Test Plans
• Ability to work additional hours and travel as needed.
Custom Software Development Manager
• A BA/BS degree in technically related field.
• 5-10 years of direct custom software development and management experience
• Programming experience with either Java, Visual Studio, or C++
• Deep understanding of databases (Oracle or SQL Server) and experience building their respective objects
• Experience with infrastructure and the installation of complex software solutions
• Experience managing the development and implementation of custom software solutions
• Experience writing project documentation for a Custom Software implementation including Requirements, Design, and Test Plan
• Experience managing teams and developing resources
• Ability to work additional hours and travel as needed.
