Sales & Use Tax Automation Senior Associate
POSITION SUMMARY:
Grant Thornton’s responsive, partner-led Tax service teams help dynamic companies navigate complexity and grow with insightful, practical tax advice. In addition to tax professionals across the United States, our Washington National Tax Office provides deep technical knowledge and responsive support in local, state, federal and international tax. Our tax services include: compliance, human capital services, federal tax services, international tax services, state and local tax services, private wealth services, tax reporting and advisory, partnership taxation, not-for-profit tax, and mergers & acquisition tax services.
Grant Thornton seeks a college grad with two to four years of relevant work experience to join our tax automation practice as a Tax Automation Senior Associate. Grant Thornton's Tax Automation Practice specializes in implementing and building solutions for our clients in a wide range of industries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage the operation, maintenance, and enhancements of a variety of internal C# .NET and ASP.NET applications.
• Assist with a wide range of implementations, integrating third party indirect tax (Sales and Use tax) systems with major third party ERP and billing platforms (SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Great Plains), as well as custom billing systems.
• Play a key role in requirements gathering, design, build, and testing of third party software products, as well as Grant Thornton's custom solutions.
• Collaborate with team members, practice leadership, and our diverse client base.
• Support, modify and upgrade various .NET (C#) applications used both internally and by clients.
• Learn our clients' operations, processes, and business objectives, and utilize knowledge on engagements.
• Process client sales tax data through Grant Thornton's systems to support the compliance outsourcing practice.
• Identification of process improvement opportunities using technology solutions to increase overall process efficiency.
• Troubleshoot client data issues encountered by US-based staff and the firm's shared services center.
• Analyze and reconcile data to support the compliance process.
• Work under the direction of a Project Manager on third-party indirect tax software implementations (Vertex, Thomson Reuters, ADP, Billsoft) and custom software development.
• Perform system integrations with major ERP and billing systems such as SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, etc.
• Program custom system interfaces and modify pre-existing interfaces.
• Test and support of system "go-live."
• Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis.
• Implement and maintain automated technology solutions.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in related technical field.
• 1-4 years of experience with C#.
• Database technologies such as Oracle, SQL Server, or MS Access.
• Experience building databases and queries.
• Desire to work interactively with team members and our clients.
• Ability to travel up to 70% for projects.
Preferred Technical Experience
• 2+ years Java application experience.
• Strong object-oriented design and development.
• Hands-on experience with web services.
• Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, etc.) and indirect tax systems (Thomson Reuters, ONESOURCE, Taxware Vertex).
• Experience with XML/XSL/XSD.
