The Hancock Natural Resource Group (HNRG) invests in timberland and agricultural land for the benefit of its clients. The Client Reporting Group is responsible for the preparation of client financial reports in accordance with GAAP, maintenance of systems and accounting records, client general ledgers, internal and external financial reporting, FASB accounting compliance, tax and REIT compliance, GIPS performance measurement compliance, cash management, customer service, supporting other business units on projects, and the establishment, review and adherence to internal controls.
HNRG is looking for a seasoned candidate with at least 10 years of accounting and financial reporting experience, preferably with multiple years at a manager level. Public Accounting / Private Sector mix is acceptable, with at least five years in the private sector.
This is a managerial role with the potential to manage several direct reports with opportunities to collaborate on group support responsibilities and special projects. HNRG is looking for a candidate with managerial and organizational skills, strong project management skills and the ability to work successfully in a team environment, as well as the ability to work independently. This candidate must feel comfortable periodically digging into the details of financial and real estate transactions and rolling up his or her sleeves to get involved in the day-to-day process of the quarterly close, financial statement production and review.

This is a Boston office based role.
Key responsibilities:
• Direct financial reporting responsibilities for a variety of investment structures (LPs, LLCs, Corps, REITs, Separate Accounts); including:
◦ preparation and review of quarterly client financial statements
◦ calculation of advisory fees and rates of return
◦ review, reconcile and analyze various general ledger accounts
◦ preparation of quarterly and year-end audit schedules, and tax workpapers
• Coordination of the audits of more than 70 financial statements
• Leading, managing and professional development of senior accountants/staff accountants
As a part of these key responsibilities, other duties will include but may not be limited to:
• Analytical responsibilities, including:
◦ monitoring cash levels and cash flow requirements
◦ researching accounting/tax matters
• Preparation of special ad hoc reports for clients, as well as preparation of cash contribution requests and distribution notifications.
• Reviewing group work, including financial statements
• Special projects and other responsibilities may include compliance, and supporting other groups (portfolio management, business development, acquisition team).

• 10 years of relevant experience with strong preference toward management experience
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required, additional degree or accreditation is preferred (CPA, MSA, MST, MBA)
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP accounting and ability to research accounting policies
• Familiarity with partnership tax principles
• Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail
• High proficiency in Excel
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to use sound judgment and interact effectively across all levels within and outside of the organization
• Sound work ethic and organization skills
• Must be highly self-directive and proactive
• Must be team-oriented with a strong willingness to tackle any task, regardless of level
• Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task within a growing company
• Previous experience as a liaison with external auditors
• Previous investment accounting experience with exposure to foreign currencies, consolidations, partnerships, REITs, acquisition/M&A, taxation, IFRS/IAS
• Experience in performance calculations (time weighted and dollar weighted)
• Open to occasional travel as needed, domestic and international
Salary and title are commensurate with experience
