Director, BMO Private Bank Credit Advisory and Administration
Description
The Director, BMO Private Bank Credit Advisory and Administration role ensures that BMO Private Bank maintains a high-quality credit portfolio and well-managed risk profile. This specific Director, BMO Private Bank Credit Advisory and Administration role will primarily support the Ultra High Net Worth banking team, The role will also provide support for large/complex opportunities for UHNW clients in other HNW Private Bank regions. Primary responsibilities include vetting and recommending credit, including new requests, annual reviews and renewals of existing credits within BMO Private Bank’s Ultra High Net Worth team. The Director, BMO Private Bank Credit Advisory and Administration will assist the Private Bankers in negotiations of credit structure and terms with clients to ensure that the credit group is effective in delivering a great client experience to our clients via our Private Bankers. The role also adds to the success of the delivery of custom credit products to BMO Private Bank clients in the U.S. by developing solutions that meet client needs while balancing bank requirements.
Success in this role is determined by the quality of BMO Private Bank’s loan portfolio, coupled with the Director, BMO Private Bank Credit Advisory and Administration’s continual adherence to the business unit’s credit risk appetite framework and application of sound credit practices.
Risk Management:
• Monitors the composition and concentration of risk within the BMO Private Bank loan portfolio.
• Ensures that good credit management practices are followed and that bank tolerances are always met for past due payments and maturities, past due annual reviews, past loan loan exceptions, etc.
• Partners with Private Bankers and BMO Private Bank Monitoring Team to ensure compliance with bank’s Quarterly Touch, Credit Trigger, and Covenant Monitoring framework across BMO Private Bank loan portfolio.
• Participates in High Risk Loan Meetings within BMO Private Bank.
• Assists with BMO Private Bank’s efforts relating to the annual Audit and Loan Review examination process.
• Acts as technical resource in credit and lending for Regional Directors, Banking; Private Bankers; Directors, BMO Private Bank Credit Advisory and Solutions; and Credit Underwriters.
Credit Recommendation:
• Vets and recommends credit requests for approval from across all BMO Private Bank markets.
• Works with Credit Underwriters, Private Bankers, Credit Risk Officers, and others to ensure that the proper credit analysis has been completed; all risks have been identified and mitigated; all appropriate Policy, Guidelines & Procedures have been addressed; all policy exceptions have been identified and approved; and that the credit fits within the bank's risk profile and the business unit’s credit risk appetite framework.
• Works with Private Bankers to develop credit structures that meet client needs in the most efficient and effective manner, optimizing use of the bank’s capital and other resources.
Special Projects:
• Participates on behalf of BMO Private Bank in bank-wide projects including those relating to risk, credit, and client issues. Represents BMO Private Bank and advocates on issues on behalf of the business unit.
Qualifications
Experience and Knowledge:
This position requires Credit Qualification. The incumbent must possess an In-Depth level of Credit knowledge and skills and an In-Depth level of Portfolio Management knowledge and skills according to the standards established within the Credit Qualification and Discretionary Limits Matrices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or business-related field.
• Requires 7+ years of experience in a senior credit management role.
• Requires experience in Relationship Management.
• Preferred experience in Commercial Banking.
• Extensive credit and risk management expertise, analytical skills, and understanding of how to mitigate risks.
• Excellent commercial and consumer lending skills.
• Strong understanding of High- and Ultra-High Net Worth markets.
