This position is a part of the Accounting Advice - Finance Markets team located in Midtown Manhattan, New York
The primary focus of this position is to provide assistance with the implementation of new accounting standards under US GAAP and IFRS applicable to Swiss Re, and assist with the delivery of internal accounting trainings. The duties will also include providing accounting advice (including policy development) related to investments and perform accounting analysis of financial instruments, products and transactions. In addition to Asset Management and Treasury, the covered areas include capital markets solutions with underlying insurance risk.
This position offers a unique growth opportunity to develop accounting expertise and understanding of a wide array of financial instruments and transactions, as well as hedging methodologies. It also offers exposure to various levels of management within Swiss Re.
The primary responsibilities are as follows:
• Assisting with the implementation of new US GAAP and IFRS accounting guidance and formulating relevant accounting policies for the affected legal entities and branches
• Monitoring new and emerging relevant US GAAP requirements and providing assistance with implementation
• Assisting in the preparation and delivery of internal training courses on accounting topics
• Accounting analysis of products and transactions involving financial instruments
The following background and skills are required:
• Undergraduate degree in Accounting
• Minimum three years of experience in public accounting (financial services industry exposure a strong plus)
• Strong command of US GAAP and IFRS accounting guidance related to classification, measurement, impairment, transfer, and disclosures of financial instruments, including derivatives, as well as accounting guidance on consolidation
• Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and remain flexible
• Ability to work independently
• High degree of self-motivation
• CPA license a strong plus
