Job Description Summary
This position resides in the Risk function and will be responsible for the 2nd line of defense Operational Risk Management (ORM) activities with a focus on the Operations function. The role will be tasked with executing risk assessments, assessing controls, advising on governance and risk management principles, and raising awareness of the risks within the Company.
Responsibilities:
• Partner with the business to execute risk assessments throughout the Operations space; proactively understand, assess and document key risks and controls and communicate outcomes to management.
• Constructively challenges current processes; looks for and recommends changes to procedures to increase efficiency and quality.
• Support risk issue management including identification, root cause analysis, action plan status and reporting.
• Collaborate with peers in the risk management functions, as well as directly with Internal Audit, Compliance, and 1st line Business Control Teams.
• Assist in development and continuous improvement of the Company’s Operational Risk Management methodology.
Qualifications:
• BA degree in related field (accounting, finance, etc.)
• Four years of experience working in risk management (or internal controls related environment), and/or experience in an Operational role with working internal controls knowledge
• Working knowledge of operational risk/audit related principles including practices around control assessment and process flows
• Excellent communication skills; effectively persuades others and facilitates conversation in situations of conflict
• Ability to lead a project independently, establish milestones and advise on progress
• Provides support and leadership surrounding collaborative activities
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong knowledge and/or prior experience in the insurance or financial services industry
• Ability to influence change and enforce risk and control mindset in the business
• Understanding and/or prior experience working with Operational processes
• One or more of the following certifications, or equivalent:
◦ (CPA) Certified Public Accountant
◦ (CIA) Certified Internal Auditor
