The ICOFR Assurance and Support Manager leads a team responsible for monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting (ICOFR) at Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company and affiliates, including Mutual of Omaha Bank. Team responsibilities include maintaining business process and key control documentation, assigning and evaluating tests of controls, monitoring remediation of control deficiencies, and consulting with business partners in the design of effective and efficient internal controls in compliance with the Model Audit Rule (MAR) and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Improvement Act (FDICIA).
Essential Job Functions:
• Directs ICOFR team in administering the annual assessments of ICOFR under MAR and FDICIA.
• Directs the:
◦ Maintenance of current process and key internal control documentation supporting MAR and FDICIA.
• Ongoing evaluation of the design of internal controls.
• Partnership with the business areas to assess the effectiveness of key internal controls.
◦ Consultation with business partners in developing remediation plans for control deficiencies.
◦ Monitoring of and reporting on management’s progress in implementing plans for remediation.
• Evaluates control issues and deficiencies identified from various sources. Directs the formal severity assessment of identified deficiencies.
• May direct staff in consulting with business partners to document internal controls relating to new or revised processes.
• Oversees development of ongoing internal control training for business partners
• Coordinates with external auditors regarding the internal control environment
• Engages with and presents to the committees governing the MAR and FDICIA programs to ensure appropriate matters are communicated, reviewed, and approved
• Leads initiatives that positively grow or transform the work performed by the team and/or business partners
• Sets and monitors work quality and time expectations.
• Maintains excellent working relationships with business unit management.
• Oversees all control related issues and activities for the Enterprise.
• Develops and maintains an engaged and accountable workforce.
• Develops and maintains a fair and equitable workforce.
• This position requires extensive or prolonged typing/keyboarding.
• This position requires up to 33% travel, which may include flying and/or driving and some overnight stays.
• This position requires sitting over 66% of the time.
• This position requires Visual Acuity at 20 inches (or less) over 66% of the time.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Thorough knowledge of accounting and/or internal audit practices and procedures related to financial accounting, financial and statistical analysis and reporting, budget and expense management and/or internal control objectives and processes
• Thorough knowledge of financial accounting systems
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
• Ability to develop and operate within a budget
• Ability to build relationships through maintaining friendly relationships or networks of contacts who are useful in achieving business results
• Ability to adapt and work effectively with a variety of situations, individuals or groups
• Ability and intention to work cooperatively with others
• Ability to break down more complex problems into systematic parts for resolution
• Ability to teach or foster development in others
• Ability to gain compliance from others in a fair, equitable, non-punishing fashion
Preferred Qualifications:
• Degree in Accounting/Finance
• CPA
• COSO/MAR/FDICIA experience
• PeopleSoft experience
