To support the analysis of Vanguard’s mutual funds/advisors and Vanguard’s efforts to identify new potential advisors. To provide leadership on a key responsibility within Portfolio Review Department, and is involved in the analysis and presentation of market and economic data.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Plays a key role in the preparation of manager oversight memos, annual fund reviews, and monthly fund status prep materials. Provides analysis of Vanguard funds/advisors while utilizing department resources including FactSet, PRD platform, and StyleResearch. Actively participates in fund and manager status review meetings.
• Develops a strong understanding of Vanguard funds and their underlying advisors. Assists senior analysts/client engagement members in their preparation for client service conference calls/meetings. May assist with on-site due diligence of existing managers.
• Works with senior analysts to identify potential advisers for Vanguard's funds. Develops "prospect lists" from available databases and industry research. Leads discussions with manager search prospects and prepares detailed notes on all relevant topics.
• Owns the overall maintenance and ongoing monitoring of the manager search dashboard. Supports the analysis of potential advisors (people, process, philosophy, business, performance). Constructs background data and memos to be presented to PRG/Board to a potential advisor addition. Identifies ways to improve and streamline the manager search process.
• Acts as a credible Vanguard investment representative. Presents Market and Economic overviews to Vanguard crew, assists in shaping the investment message for quarterly analyst forums (and other updates), and supports VIAS, IAM, Flagship and other internal partners as business needs dictate. Writes investment commentaries for Vanguard mutual funds. Utilizes department resources to respond to fund/advisor/market questions.
• Takes ownership of ongoing development focused on investment/fund analysis skills and presentation skills. Continually develops knowledge of investment industry, competitors, funds and related investment topics. Maintains awareness of industry developments which may impact Vanguard. Regularly presents investment topics to departmental or internal crew.
• Provides leadership on key responsibilities including: cash management, the PRD platform, advisor presentations, etc. Conducts overviews to potential candidates. Mentors business/VADP interns during rotations.
• Supports and enhances PRD's reporting process, technology initiatives, and serve as department resources/expert on assigned reporting and external systems. Assists in testing of new technology and initiatives and assists senior analysts in the maintenance of the PRD platform.
• Assists with projects related to new product development (including international) as well as product management.
• Serves as a Vanguard mutual fund subject-matter expert and provides information and timely insights through client conversations.
• Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate Should Possess:
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience; pursuit of MBA or CFA preferred.
• Minimum of three years investment experience.
• Series 6, 63 licenses preferred or ability to obtain within 3 months.
• Working knowledge of Vanguard's funds and the investment industry.
• Proven ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities.
• Strong quantitative/analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
