OVERALL FUNCTIONS
The Credit Analyst contributes to the profitability of the bank division’s loan portfolio by supporting the bank lenders. Through growth of a high quality portfolio by analyzing, reviewing, and the recommendation of approval of credit requests.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB
We have 3 openings at this time - one opening is Lewistown, one in Choteau and one in Fairfield.
The position of Credit Analyst is responsible for gathering and analyzing credit information on current and potential borrowers; assists in determining the advisability of granting credit for diversified types of loans; assists loan officers in writing loan requests; promotes business for the Bank by maintaining good customer relations and referring customers to appropriate staff for new services.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1. CREDIT ANALYSIS
a. Reviews credit requests and assists lender as to the approval or denial of loan requests by:
b. Accurate and prompt analysis of financial statements and tax returns, utilizing financial analysis software as appropriate.
c. Assist the lenders with determining the appropriate loan product to fit the customer’s needs.
d. Periodically updates and reviews outstanding loan financial information as determined by conditions of the initial credit authorization and as appropriate.
e. Remains current on loan programs and lending regulations as well as compliance and bank policies and procedures including, but not limited to, a working knowledge of SBA and various loan products.
f. Obtain a complete working knowledge of the First Bank of Montana loan policy.
g. Works with bank support staff updating financial tracking systems and collateral tracking systems, identifying outdated and missing items and assisting lenders in requesting them from borrowers.
h. Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
2. OTHER REQUIRED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a. Participates in the preparation of bank reports specific to the Credit
Department.
b. Assist loan officers in the ordering and reviewing of real estate appraisals according to bank policy.
c. Back-up other staff as needed.
d. Ensures that the branch facility and equipment (internally and externally) are maintained, always projecting a neat and organized image and facilitating the delivery of quality products that exceed customers’ expectations.
e. Complete the assigned online training courses and achieve a passing score by the due date.
f. Perform other duties as necessary.
3. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
a. Participates in new business development efforts by participating in community events and organizations.
b. Assists bankers with the sale of bank products and services to customers/ prospects through analyzing customer needs and recommending
appropriate products.
c. Contributes to meeting the sales/marketing goals of all the Division’s departments and partners by:
• Identifying and referring prospects,
• Introducing the customer,
• Arranging an appointment or arranging for the appropriate department to contact the customer directly.
4. CUSTOMER /EMPLOYEE RELATIONS
a. Retains and continues to develop customer relationships by providing a
consistent quality level of service that is timely, thorough and responsive to all customers. Takes ownership of problems until they are resolved to the customer’s satisfaction, including making the determination as to when it is necessary to involve the manager or other resources.
b. Is able to negotiate “win-win” situations. Acts promptly with regard to customers’ requests. Follows through on commitments and obligations (including, but not limited to, returning telephone calls in a timely manner).
c. Represents First Bank of Montana to the public in a positive, professional manner by serving as the front-line liaison for all back-office, non-customer contact areas. Develops and maintains a general understanding of these areas in order to determine the appropriate person to contact for assistance. The business credit analyst demonstrates good teamwork skills when working in conjunction with back-office resources.
d. Contributes toward providing a quality-conscious environment for co-workers and customers. Works with the branch team in order to accomplish the branch’s daily tasks and quality goals.
e. Performs appropriate follow-up with customers after sales are made and determines if their needs have been met.
f. Communicates (orally and in writing) in a positive, professional manner with customers and vendors. Displays a professional appearance and behavior that will gain the confidence of customers.
Requirements
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education and Experience:
a. College degree or equivalent training or experience in Business/Accounting.
b. Computer skills to prepare financial spreads, worksheets and reports.
2. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
a. Complete familiarity with the bank’s savings, checking, and lending policies.
b. Must have the ability to work under pressure.
c. Must be able to work quickly, accurately and meet deadlines.
d. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
e. Knowledge of loan processes.
f. Knowledge of keyboarding and computer aspects.
g. Knowledge of bank security and retention procedures.
h. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
