Description
The Manager of Fraud Risk for MoneyGram Digital manages various aspects of fraud risk mitigation, and data analytics and modeling function for MoneyGram's digital properties. This includes MoneyGram’s Mobile and Web based Money Transfer and Payments businesses. This manager will provide analytical insights from existing data to direct the build of the next generation of models and rules, that MoneyGram will then use to manage its risk from fraud and scams. This role will initially start out as an individual contributor role, but will evolve to lead a small team of data analysts.
Primary Responsibilities
• Responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of new customer authentication, fraud prevention and scam detection models for MoneyGram’s various digital web and mobile sites across the globe.
• Works closely with MoneyGram’s retail vertical to identify opportunities to apply similar tools and capability to retail agent driven transactions.
• Works with third party service providers to direct and architect the next generation of fraud and scam detection models.
• Performs ongoing model evaluation to measure performance of models, fraud detection and false positives. Direct refreshes of existing models based on performance deterioration and identification of new fraud trends.
• Directs and implements risk monitoring rules that operate in conjunction with the fraud/scam detection risk models. Performs ongoing assessment of risk monitoring rules to evaluate rule effectiveness, identify enhancements to reduce false positives, and improve fraud detection capabilities.
• Responsible for data analytics - performs analysis of fraud trends and patterns to identify opportunities for process and systemic improvements to optimize risk/return tradeoffs.
• Creates reports, documentation and presentations suitable for distribution to senior level/executive management. Produces analytical material for discussion with cross-functional teams to influence solution strategies.
• Responsible for hiring, mentoring and building a small team of data experts that will manage the business analytics and modeling needs as MoneyGram digital scales operations across the globe.
• Works closely with the Risk Management operations and compliance teams to set policies and rules that govern monitoring and due diligence of transactions and consumers.
Qualifications
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, risk management, data science, analytics, engineering or related field.
• Master’s degree preferred but will consider industry experience in lieu of this.
Experience
• 8+ years of experience in data science, statistical analysis, fraud risk management or related field; preferably in the risk management or financial services industry.
• Hands on experience in building or working with models for fraud risk management a plus.
Essential Skills
• Experience working with data analysis and modeling – linear regression, random forest, decision trees, machine learning etc.
• Ability to data map and data mine. Demonstrated analytical skills - ability to work with large data sets, summarize results and write a conclusion that is supported by the evidence.
• Strong leadership skills, people management skills - managing people, hiring, performance management, and mentoring team members.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills.
• Experience working in a cross functional and matrixed work environment.
