Description
TCF Bank is currently hiring for a Technical Writer to support our Retail Lending Unit.The Technical Writer will design and develop end-user documentation and specialized internal communications. Create, often from an outline or broadly defined concept, specialized documents for internal publication. Under general supervision, work independently on assigned documentation tasks, meeting established deadlines. Maintain in-depth working knowledge of current software and technologies, of writing methods and practices, and of business writing standards in general.
Major Areas of Accountability
• Working closely with Retail Lending management and development areas, write documentation related to new or revised applications. Includes system manuals, training manuals, process manuals, and bulletins as needed for projects. Create a variety of written documents using a pre-defined format to various audiences as requested.
• Write a Documentation Plan for all significant assignments, which details the writer’s commitment of all documents produced for a project.
• Participate in the evaluation, implementation, and selection of software and hardware required to support professional written communication, and its distribution through electronic media.
• Assist the development areas by being an active participant on the project team.
• Assist in establishing the protocols and standards for all written communication.
• Possess a clear understanding of on-line documentation. Maintain a current knowledge of the technologies available for alternative delivery of manuals and other written communication. Maintain department intranet web pages insuring accuracy of linked information.
• Participate in and record minutes for Division meetings (i.e., Document/Forms Control, Product Development, File Review Compliance, etc.).
• Participate in testing and problem resolution process of the systems to ensure procedures and problem resolutions are correct.
• Maintain up-to-date and working knowledge of branch operations and the lending process. Maintain working knowledge of the major laws and regulations that govern Retail Lending (e.g., Truth-in-Lending, Regulation Z, ECOA, HMDA, HOEPA, etc.).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or related field or equivalent work experience
• Previous work experience demonstrating ability to write technical documents.
• Possess the ability to analyze documents for logical progression, consistency, and lack of ambiguity.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and to meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to interact tactfully and effectively in working relationships with other personnel both inside and outside of the company.
• Proficient in MS Word and Adobe Acrobat.
Preferred:
• 1+ year of technical writing experience.
