Summary
The position is responsible for the financial reporting and support of the mutual fund affiliate businesses, Thrivent Asset Management, LLC, Thrivent Financial Investor Services, Inc. and Thrivent Distributors, LLC. (TAM, TFISI and TDL). TAM is an investment adviser registered with the SEC. TFISI is a transfer agent registered with the SEC and TDL is a limited purpose broker-dealer registered with FINRA and the SEC. The Mutual Fund Affiliate Finance team exists to provide accurate financial books and records, analysis and reporting principles, in partnership with internal and external customers to achieve Thrivent's goals. Performs a wide range of detailed accounting and advisory functions pertaining to assigned area and assures day-to-day operations are carried out in accordance with established accounting principles, policies and objectives. Incumbents work independently and with peers and exercise professional judgment within assigned function.
• Prepare and analyze accounting and business activity for referenced entities. Activities include legal entity financial statement preparation, line of business analysis, researching and verifying general ledger activity.
• Prepare semi-annual and annual board reporting materials as well as supporting schedules for the annual contract renewal.
• Perform preparation of specialized financial analyses (e.g., "what-if" analysis, pro-forma financial statements, etc.).
• Routinely interact with accounting services to research and resolve entity questions.
• Incorporate new products into/or alter existing processes and reporting.
• Assist in preparation of materials for internal and external auditors.
• Interact with regulators during financial exams.
• Reviews and provides input to the design of reporting and related documents; determines input-output requirements and recommends changes to methods or procedures to management, utilizing knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
• Continuously support team goals.
• Responsibilities are generally a monthly cadence, however flex with reporting timelines.
Required Job Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree in accounting or finance or strong accounting skills acquired through 1+ years’ work experience in the Mutual Fund/Investment Company industry.
• Proficiency in Excel highly desirable
• Strong attention to details in combination with analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to multi-task, plan and organize to meet competing deadlines in a team environment.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
Other Critical Factors
• Knowledge and understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles of Mutual Fund companies.
• Desire and willingness to look beyond the numbers - continuously curious.
• Comfortable interacting with multiple management levels
