Overview
Mariner Capital Advisors (“MCA”), a Mariner Holdings’ company, is a boutique investment bank headquartered near Kansas City and founded in 2002. MCA specializes in merger and acquisition advisory and valuation advisory services to lower middle-market companies and their advisors.
MCA is currently searching for a Valuation Director with a desire to work in an entrepreneurial and growth-oriented organization. This person will lead MCA’s valuation practice, overseeing a small team that provides valuation advisory services to companies across the U.S.
The Valuation Director provides critical oversight of the firm’s valuation engagements, reporting directly to the firm’s President.
Responsibilities
• Business Development:
• Originate new valuation engagements through internal and external networking, other business development initiatives, and responding to RFPs
• Position MCA as a thought leader by attending/speaking at industry conferences and events as well as staying abreast of current valuation industry trends and regulatory requirements
• Project Management:
• Assign incoming valuation engagements, properly managing staff workload
• Oversee valuation engagement execution, including, but not limited to, reviewing and approving analyses and deliverables, ensuring deadlines are met, and presenting findings to clients
• Maintain client relationships throughout the engagement
• Provide guidance and constructive feedback to improve individual and team performance
• Talent Development:
• Mentor analysts and associates
Qualifications
• 5+ years conducting private company valuation in an advisory/professional services environment
• Expertise in valuating operating businesses, intellectual property, fixed income instruments, and holding companies for transaction, tax reporting, and financial reporting purposes
• Prior experience as a testifying expert on valuation in litigation is preferred
• Demonstrated business development experience
• At least one finance, accounting, or valuation related certification or designation (e.g. CFA, ASA, CPA, CBA, ABV)
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or economics (or related)
• MBA or relevant post-graduate degree is preferred
• Exceptional work ethic that can accommodate a demanding profession
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Highly organized with the ability to multi-task
• Good team player with the ability to work under pressure
