As a Specialty Brokerage Operations Manager, you’ll drive careers, create high performing teams, and help achieve strategic business objectives. Specialty Brokerage Operation area in the Retail Investor Group (RIG). To ensure that operational work is accurately and efficiently processed while servicing clients and protecting the firm from financial loss and liability.
Duties and Responsibilities

• Leads and manages staff, creating a strong team atmosphere and providing guidance, training and motivation as necessary to develop staff. Hires, evaluates and counsels personnel. Follows corporate performance management procedures per established Vanguard standards as required. Sets high performance standards, reviews performance, provides feedback, and recommends wage increases in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
• Directs and oversees the daily operation of one or more of VMC's business activities, including: corporate actions, securities lending, clearance/settlements, margin, money movement and/or special securities receipt and transfer. Sets measurable goals and examines ways to raise standards, improve quality, and improve overall performance of the department.
• Owns the development and ongoing assessment of assigned business unit’s risk mitigation strategy. Identifies, evaluates and mitigates risk to business objectives, process workflows and service initiatives. Leads the partnership with Compliance, Internal Audit, Risk and Control, and Legal to ensure risk mitigation efforts, both tactically and strategically, are agreed upon and aligned with overall corporate direction.
• Ensures that all work is executed in compliance with SEC and FINRA rules and regulations, including firm written supervisory procedures (WSPs). Prepares documentation and explanation of operational models for regulators and independent auditors. Provides second-level interpretation of SEC and FINRA rules and regulations and develops the ability to communicate with Regulators as needed.
• Participates in the development of department business plans and budgets. Responsible for managing and analyzing headcount and other operational expenses to reach annual objectives and identify performance improvement opportunities.
• Participates in the ongoing management of relationships with external counterparties and key vendor providers. Represents the firm in industry groups and committees. Maintains awareness of industry and technological advancements regarding assigned operations and reviews their applicability to Vanguard operations.
• Works with training resources to develop methods to build and maintain functional knowledge of key brokerage processes internally while enabling knowledge sharing with internal partners, including our client contact groups.
• Complies with Vanguard's Code of Ethics. Adheres to corporate and departmental business risk management policies and procedures. Maintains complete client information confidentiality.
• Participates in special projects and contributes to corporate-wide efforts as assigned.
Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience is required. Graduate degree preferred.
• Minimum five years general experience and five years brokerage experience.
• DTCC/NSCC and back office operations systems experience including at least 2 years in a managerial capacity.
• Demonstrated experience and understanding of internal control theory and practice. In-depth knowledge of FINRA, SEC and IRS laws and regulations related to financial services and the brokerage industry in particular.
• Customer service orientation with excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills; team player with positive attitude.
• Highly developed organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
• Proficient knowledge of basic business applications including: MS Excel, Powerpoint, and Word.
• Series 7, 63 required. Series 4 and 24 or ability to obtain within three months
