The Vice President will assist in developing and implementing strategic, proactive external communications to promote BNY Mellon’s strategy, objectives and leadership, and protect and defend BNY Mellon’s reputation. S/he will support media relations around BNY Mellon’s major corporate and financial events, including quarterly earnings, Proxy filing and Annual Report, leadership announcements and regulatory developments. S/he will assist in messaging development and positioning for sensitive, reputational issues facing the company, working closely with BNY Mellon’s Executive Committee, Investor Relations, Legal, Regulatory Affairs and the business units.
Primary responsibilities for this role include:
Handle day-to-day media inquiries; develop appropriate responses quickly and accurately by liaising with appropriate internal stakeholders. Build and maintain relationships with key corporate and financial news media. Extensive writing and messaging development, including press releases, statements, talking points and Q&As. Synthesize complex situations quickly and exercise judgment to determine plan of action that ensures the best outcome for BNY Mellon. Utilize project management expertise to execute communications around disclosure events or special situations from inception (drafting of materials) to completion (rollout of communications across multiple channels/audiences) by collaborating closely with key internal partners (Investor Relations, Legal) and Communications colleagues across the firm. Build strong relationships with internal clients, partners and peers across the BNY Mellon enterprise. Collaborate closely with key BNY Mellon communications teams and regions, including internal communications, digital communications, marketing, social media and corporate social responsibility, to ensure a consistent external narrative. Work with Global Head of External Communications to develop global, integrated media strategy.
Qualifications
Highly Preferred Experience:
Demonstrated track record of excellence in developing and executing external communications and media relations for a large, global financial services firm. Deep and broad business acumen; solid understanding of BNY Mellon’s business (financial services experience is required). Ability to present and defend a point of view with the senior leadership team, internal colleagues and external media regarding how best to communicate complex corporate and financial matters. Experienced in media outreach to secure coverage in national/regional newspapers, broadcast outlets and trade publications. Deep knowledge of digital and social channels/platforms. High-functioning, proactive individual who can handle stressful situations. Effectively prioritizes multiple demands on his/her time. Transitions easily from day-to-day tasks to high profile, critical crisis situations. Fearless when managing challenging situations and conflict. Outstanding written and oral communication skills; effective presentation skills. Commitment to excellence and collaborative approach to getting work done, balanced with a sense of humor.
Minimum Requirements:
7~10 years of professional experience in corporate communications and media relations, preferably for a financial services firm. An undergraduate degree is required. Advanced degree in communications or an MBA is highly desirable.
