The Credit Products Underwriter II - Energy is responsible for underwriting complex transactions. Responsible for providing product and industry expertise. Has client facing responsibilities. The majority of time will be balanced between analysis of clients, design and execution of deals, and joint client calls with RMs to provide advice. Will partner with the RMs to assist in generating revenue and profitability.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prepares financial underwriting on transactions. Typical transaction sizes range from $2 Million to $20 Million. Analysis and recommendations are made to RM and DM regarding structure and pricing. Assumes responsibility for recognizing/ documenting policy exceptions; interacts with customers/prospects to gather information for credit analysis.
2. Interacts with loan committees to provide information and/or to support conclusion reached in analysis; serves as an accomplished resource regarding credit/industry analysis. Participates in committee presentations; presents loan renewals independently to management or to loan committee as a Relationship Manager substitute.
3. Participates in joint calling on credit customers/prospects; assists in the development of new credit business through calling with Relationship Manager on existing or prospective customers to gather key information for proper credit analysis.
4. Manages/delegates workflow of the entire department, including allocation of analysis, quarterly covenant compliance testing, financial statement spreading, and other miscellaneous services related to credit.
5. Ensures RM’s are notified of non-compliance issues; prepares summary reports which outline any borrower’s non-compliance.
6. Writes all commitment reports for specified loans as a team member and participates in committee presentations; presents loan renewals independently to management or loan committee as a Relationship Manager substitute.
7. Partner with Relationship Managers to craft and deliver core and complex business deals for clients.
8. Responsible for expanding and retaining a commercial credit portfolio, will structure credit facilities to meet customer needs and deliver service that will delight our clients.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
• Demonstrated knowledge of intermediate accounting theory, including the difference between GAAP and income-tax based statements, cash and accrual accounting, consolidation and elimination principals, and the effect each type of accounting has on the underwriting process
• Ability to clearly communicate and convey information and ideas through a variety of channels
• Ability to leverage a network of relationships with clients, relationship managers, and peers for support in achieving both the individual and organizational goals
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of credit principles, lending functions, loan analysis, and application of general credit policies
• Excellent organizational skills and meticulous work habits
• Ability to critically review work for errors and incorrect conclusions
• Ability to complete assignments quickly and efficiently with minimal direction
• Ability to proactively communicate with both colleagues and senior personnel
• Conflict management skills
• Ability to work efficiently under limited timeframes
• Extensive knowledge of loan documentation, loan policy and regulations
• Extensive knowledge of the Loan Grading Process
• Excellent oral and written communications skills
• Advanced PC and spreadsheet software skills
This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years Credit Analysis/Credit products underwriter experience; Or 13-15 years of equivalent work related experience.
