Description
Reporting directly to the Managing Director of US FICC Commodities, the Director, Metals Sales and Trading is expected to be market focused; the position entails working with producers, refiners, transporters and consumers to source and deliver a final product globally. The position involves monitoring global metal shipping costs and logistics along with premiums to maximize revenues through the movement of metal as well as working with institutional clients to supply safe keep and store their metal. The role is required to assist in the onboarding of refiners, transporters and safekeeping depositories by helping to navigate the CLP and SEMS process and involvement with back and middle offices required to ensure the seamless movement of metal, financing of metal, leasing and inventory finance. The position involves onboarding metal leasing clients who include refiners and consumers.
Key Accountabilities:
Metal Sales
• Become familiar with metal market conventions, both precious and base, to enable the back-up for sales of spot, forward and options both physically and cash settled
• Liaise with clients to understand their market requirements and exposures, and to develop value added solutions
• Become fully conversant in BMO specific on-boarding and regulatory requirements
Metals Trading
• Understanding of precious metals pricing and risk management
• Able to price and hedge precious spot, forwards and options on a back-up basis, experience trading exotic options a plus
• Ability to trade arbitrage between precious OTC and Exchange traded products
• Able to price base metals flat price and options on a back-up basis
• Able to hedge client risk appropriately
• Able to manage overall portfolios particularly cash and inventory positions
Risk analysis
• Work to help develop integrated risk analysis of mining clients
• Strong math skills are required
Project development
• Assist in the development work on next phase of metals expansion including SGE and LME membership, Retail distribution, Prime brokerage.
Qualifications
Knowledge
• 8-10 years of experience of industry related experience including minimum 5 years in Metals Sales & Trading at a financial institution in Capital Markets with emphasis on investment and corporate banking.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in financial services, accounting and legal fields.
• Must successfully complete the external regulatory exams, licenses required to be considered a registered member and senior officer of the firm.
• Expert and recent knowledge of US, Canadian and International investment banking business, regulations, and securities products including various markets, trading, leadership, and significant risk management and planning, especially in the US, Canadian, and European marketplaces.
• Complete understanding of the organization as a whole.
• Significant managerial, change management and leadership experience.
• Knowledge of credit issues and industry trends in various client sectors throughout the US, Canadian and International market.
Skills
• Expert in all aspects of business development with demonstrated excellence marketing, sales, trade finance, new product development, risk management, strategic direction, and cross-selling sustaining significant revenue generation.
• Expert level of relationship management and interpersonal skills and the ability to strategically and ethically leverage these relationships
• Excellent ability to advocate persuasively and negotiate with influence when conducting business with peers and clients.
• Exceptional managerial leadership skills, especially in adapting and leading change.
• Exceptional analytical skills including financial, economic, and business analysis and the ability to apply these concepts to the daily functions of the business.
• Very results oriented and strong capability of taking calculated risks and adapting to situations quickly.
• Strong ability to think conceptually and to achieve both short and long term business results.
• Highly developed written and oral communication.
• Strong proficiency computer applications including Microsoft Office products, financial applications, and the Internet.
