Our primary business areas are Life Insurance, Retirement and Investments supported by an industry leading Career Agency Distribution channel, Direct to Consumer channel and Third Party Distribution channels.
New York Life seeks a Head of Events who will lead our Events Planning team and who will work closely with senior executives to create and implement the company’s strategy for corporate, incentive and training based events, involving 20 to 5,000 attendees. This position is based in New York, NY.
Position Overview:
• Dedicated leader of 12 staff members who helps develop the events strategy and leads the Event team's goals, inspires team and self in the, planning, marketing, management and execution of private corporate events
• Transforms the vision of these events into best in class productions
• Creates and leads the execution of the department’s strategic plan to identify, generate and maximize participants’ experience, including leisure activities, such as, excursions and tours.
• Inspires others through continuous coaching and performance feedback, meeting routines, on-the-job training and fostering professional development to build an engaged team culture
• Responsible for influencing team, cross-functional and external partners in support of agreed upon objectives and budget targets
• Recruits new team members as appropriate in addition to training new team members and partners (internal or external) on event management requirements and protocols
• Manages and develop events calendar and communications with the internal teams
• Leads project scope and strategy including staffing requirements, program plans, budget, oversight over the registration process and collaborating on initiatives to promote the events. Coordinates and leads Event Operations cross-functional meetings, planning and reviewing event schedule, while pre-planning meetings and content for discussion with Events team in advance
• Collaborates with internal teams in support of event plans, resource allocation, relaying all pertinent event information to cross-functional partners to relay to their staff in advance of events
• Develops and oversees print and digital communications to event attendees - look and feel, tone and written style
• Helps identify domestic and international destination and site selection for events
Experience Requirements & Qualifications:
• BA degree in relevant areas or equivalent experience in a relevant hospitality environment
• 10+ years events management and/or hospitality management experience
• Ability to travel about 20% and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills, demonstrable Excel and Word proficiency, strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to set goals and have a vision to lead and promote New York Life’s event portfolio.
• Data oriented Events leadership with experience defining key success metrics and driving towards those metrics as part of the overall Events strategy
• Development and continual refinement of the customer experience strategy
• Strong leadership and people management skills with experience in uniting a team of Event professionals - full time and temporary staff - to achieve successful outcomes.
• Experience collaborating with internal and external resources in developing and/or contributing to strategic initiatives that meet department goals within budget and established timelines
• Project management experience
• Optimization of departmental processes that address an excellent and brand-appropriate customer experience
• Demonstrated experience and ability to think critically while working in a dynamic, high pressure team environment, fostering a sense of urgency and commitment to achieving goals. Empathetic understanding of trade show, conference, meeting and special events needs and priorities.
• Build and support a team culture of innovation
• Familiarity and comfort with attendee management registration systems, apps and event technology
